Not big news at this point, because we’ve all known about it for a week. But now it’s, like, totally official:

The Cubs continued their offseason restructuring on Tuesday, sending pitcher Jason Marquis to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for reliever Luis Vizcaino. Cubs.com.

Some tidbits on the contract swap:

Marquis is in the final year of a three-year contract he signed with the Cubs in December 2006. The right-hander is to be paid $9.875 million this year, and the Cubs are expected to pay $1 million of that. Vizcaino is set to make $4 million this year.

Even though we’re taking back $4M and the hispanic Bob Howry (thanks, Rappster) in this deal, I’m glad we only have to fork over $1M for Marquis’ salary. Much less than early speculation of getting his ass outta here.

We’ll see how it works out. Marquis was never bad for what he was – he just cost way too freaking much this year. Hispanic Bob Howry… very nice. Although I think he’s Dominican.
