Lukewarm Stove: Juan Uribe’s Next Shooting… As a Cub?

Former Chicago White Sock/Dominican Republic shooter Juan Uribe has been linked to the Cubs as a possible 25th man by Bruce Levine this morning. Uribe is as versatile as Rich Aurilia – the other rumored Cubs 25th man – but hasn’t managed to top .700 in the OPS department in three years.

I’ve also heard Hinske mentioned. I think I prefer Cedeno to all of the options that I have seen linked to the Cubs, followed by Aurillia, followed by Hinske. Uribe is not even on my radar.

I went and looked at the numbers, and I now have Hinske at the top of my list. He put up an .800 ops last year. He would provide decent protection for right, third, or first base. Former Cubs prospect coming home, but we are really weak from the right side on the bench.

In my mind three middle infielders with two being able to play short is all you need. Middle infielders suck on the bench for everything except playing middle infield.

I’d be thrilled to get Uribe as a backup. You dont WANT Miles playing there very much. 15+ homers and ability to play really anywhere in the infield? Sign me up.

Uribe is what I would expect for us to have if DFB were still calling the shots.
