The Chicago Cubs lost to the White Sox… again. Good thing it’s just fake baseball. Though the games are fake, the… battles… are… REAL! (you tittered right there, didn’t you?)

  • Jake Fox went 2-4, to keep up the relatively nice Spring. He played first base in this one, so he’s logging time at a variety of positions. Still unlikely to be enough for him to make this team.
  • Mike Fontenot also went 2-4 while playing third base. I’d like to see him get a few more innings at short. I swear that wasn’t a pun.
  • Paul “The” Bako went 1-3 with a walk. Grumble.
  • Aaron Heilman looked pretty darn good in three scoreless innings starting out the game. To the extent he and Sean Marshall are both looking good by the end of the Spring, you’ve got to wonder if the lack of lefties in the bullpen might doom Marshall. It’s likely they’ll both start several games for the Cubs this year anyway.
  • Kevin Gregg took advantage of Carlos Marmol’s absence with a scoreless, two K inning.
  • Neil Cotts also threw a scoreless inning, hoping to hang onto a spot in the pen. As noted in two bullets above, his left-handedness will help him very much in his bid, even if he isn’t necessarily extra tough on lefty hitters.
