Auggie Busch may have planted him 30 years ago to find the next Lou Brock... As far as tradition vs. winning - I agree that they are becoming mutually exclusive. My hope is, however, that the by-products of the win-at-all-costs approach (steroids, gun-for-hire trades, etc.) run their course and bring the game back to a more traditional focus.
