Kevin Hart to Iowa, Jeff Stevens to Chicago
Filed under: Chicago Cubs Transactions, Cubs Minor Leagues and Prospects
In an incredibly savvy move (shock), the Chicago Cubs are sending temporary starter Kevin Hart down to AAA Iowa so that they can bring up an extra bullpen arm for the Cardinals series.
The extra arm belongs to reliever prospect Jeff Stevens, acquired by the Cubs over the winter in the Mark DeRosa deal. Stevens has been dominant at Iowa – as have many other relieving prospects – putting up a 2.18 ERA in just over 41 innings. He’s also got 43 Ks and a 1.09 WHIP. Just all around awesome numbers.
Normally this would be a ludicrous move, given the requirement that Hart has to stay in the minors for at least 10 days following the move. But with the All Star break, that will be no problem.
