The Cubs Don’t Have the Prospects to get … John Grabow?

Chicago Cubs Rumors

The Chicago Cubs are focusing their trade deadline efforts on acquiring a lefty reliever, and most are not expected to come at a terribly steep price.

But apparently the Pittsburgh Pirates believe they’re holding onto a golden goose.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs have stepped up their pursuit of left-handed reliever John Grabow. However, the Cubs have one of the game’s weakest farm systems and it is believed they have few minor-leaguers who interest the Pirates. PiratesReport.com.

That the Cubs have a thin farm system relative to the rest of baseball is a well-known fact. But, dude. Come on. We ain’t exactly talking about Roy Halladay here. If the Cubs were absolutely intent on acquiring Grabow – a middling lefty reliever with a so-so ERA, a poor WHIP, and who struggles to get out lefties – it would be quite easy for them to do so.

I imagine what this writer probably meant to say is that the Cubs aren’t willing to give up the kind of minor leaguers that the Pirates want.
