With the recent and dramatic closer woes, the Chicago Cubs are no doubt pining for closers of the past. Maybe they wouldn’t be doing any better this year for the Cubs, but it is easy to miss the performances of previous closers.

    Yea thats what we need Wood with his over 5 ERA and over $10 million, that makes lots of sence.

      You’ve got the “being a douche” part down, Hugo. But you need to work on the “reading” part:

          Better than Gregg’s 80% save percentage (i.e., the only stat that really matters for a closer)?

          Well, you have to go alllll the way back to… last year. Kerry Wood was at 85%.

              Calculate the average difference between first and second place in a divisional race and get back to me.

              Psst – a 5% difference in wins over the course of 40 to 50 save opportunities is two to three wins. Think that makes a difference?
