money Obsessive New Ownerwatch: Deal Signed on FridayWe’ve heard this before, but maybe this time it’s legit: according to Dave Kaplan, the sale of the Chicago Cubs to Tom Ricketts will be completed this Friday – at least as far as those two parties are concerned.

Excellent sources have assured me that there are no more hurdles to clear and the paperwork will be signed by Friday. It will then move on to an MLB ownership committee then a stop in front of the bankruptcy judge and finally it will need approval of the other owners in Major League Baseball. All of this should be wrapped up by the World Series or shortly thereafter and it should pave the way for Tom Ricketts and his family to finally have the keys to the Cubs kingdom.

Bankruptcy approval is likely perfunctory at this point, and presumably the same is true of the MLB ownership committee.

Completing the deal by the end of this season is critical for the Cubs to be able to participate in the full complement of offseason transactions.

    1. Dave Kaplan doesn’t have “excellent sources.”

    2. Dave Kaplan eats his own poop.

    3. That said, I hope he’s right. I’m sick to death of this thing.
