God Relents: Ted Lilly Feeling Good, Rehab Start Today
A quick update on Chicago Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly: he’s feeling great after minor knee surgery and should rehab, and will start today for the Peoria Chiefs. If that start goes well, Lilly could be back as soon as next week, though the Cubs may send him out for one more rehab outting before activating [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Phillies 4, Cubs 3 – August 11, 2009
Sure, the Cardinals, Rockies and Giants all lost, so everyone says “at least the Cubs didn’t lose a game in the standings.” I’ve always hated that expression. Of course they lost a game – because they lost tonight, they remain 3 games out in the Central and the Wild Card. If they had won, they’d [...]
Series Preview: Cubs v. Phillies, August 11 – August 13, 2009
The Chicago Cubs welcome the Philadelphia Phillies, who are kind of awesome – which is not a particularly welcome site for a reeling Cubs club. A refresher on the series preview here at Bleacher Nation: The idea is to hook you up with the bare minimum of what you need to know about every series [...]
God’s Wrathwatch: Carlos Zambrano’s Back is Structurally Unchanged
I know, I know. It seems like it’s all injury watches today. But, well… it is. Some moderately good news on the Carlos Zambrano injury front (not to be confused with the Aramis Ramirez injury front, the Reed Johnson injury front, the Ted Lilly injury front, or the Tom Gorzelanny injury front) – his MRI [...]
God Hates Slothwatch: Gorzelanny Injury Not Serious
Tom Gorzelanny is not expected to miss his next start after suffering a contusion in last night’s game. The contusion, a fancy word for bruise, came off a Dexter Fowler ground ball that smacked Gorzelanny in the foot/leg, and knocked him out of the game. X-rays came back negative, however, and manager Lou Piniella says [...]
Obsessive Ramirez Dislocationwatch: Aramis Could be Headed Back to DL
There is no good news to report on the Aramis Ramirez front. The Cubs are now officially kicking around the possibility of sending the third baseman – and the Cubs’ best hitter – back to the disabled list, after he already spent more than two months there. Ramirez, who missed a second straight game Monday [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 5, Rockies 11 – August 10, 2009
Um, didn’t we already see this game on Sunday? Same exact score, same exact horrible feeling.
God Hates Sloth: Gorzelanny Out After Being Hit By Ball
The hits just keep on coming – and no, not the kind that you need with runners in scoring position. Chicago Cubs temporary starting pitcher Tom Gorzelanny took a hard grounder of his right leg, and was forced to leave the game. Freshly called up Esmailin Caridad took over. h/t Kid at SOI.
