Prince Fielder Blacked Out Before Going After Guillermo Mota
Er. Um. Apparently. Fielder had said he didn’t “remember” his delayed reaction after reliever Guillermo Mota, a former teammate, hit him with two outs in the ninth inning of the 17-4 Dodgers win, presumably as payback for Chris Smith grazing Manny Ramirez with a pitch two innings earlier. ESPN. But despite not “remembering” his childish, [...]
Cubs Trade Jason Dubois to Mets
A ho hum minor league deal to the Cubs, the acquisition of Jason Dubois could actually mean something to the Mets, constantly reeling from injuries (not unlike the Cubs, actually). The Mets acquired outfielder Jason Dubois from the Cubs, where had been playing with Triple-A Iowa. Dubois, 29, appeared in 86 games from 2004-05 with [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 2, Rockies 6 – August 7, 2009
Carlos Zambrano went down before the game even started, and it didn’t get any better. On the bright side, Lou Piniella finally saw the light, and decided to use Milton Bradley’s abilities (i.e., high OBP this year) where they will best serve the team. And he got on base three times.
Carlos Zambrano Scratched
Despite his entreaties all week that he was fine, that his back was not a problem, it appears as though Carlos Zambrano is not fine. And his back is a problem. He’s not going to start tonight, and Sean Marshall will be pressed into emergency duty. Yikes.
Geovany Soto to Chicago, Micah Hoffpauir to Iowa
The Cubs activated Geovany Soto (finally!) for tonight’s game, and in a corresponding move sent Micah Hoffpauir to AAA Iowa (as I predicted – sort of… hey, just let me have my moment, dude).
Series Preview: Cubs v. Rockies, August 7 – August 10, 2009
The Chicago Cubs head out west to take on the surprisingly still good Colorado Rockies. And so begins a very tough stretch – and yet critically important – of the Cubs’ schedule. Prepare for terror. A refresher on the series preview here at Bleacher Nation: The idea is to hook you up with the bare [...]
God Relents: Soto is Back, But Who Goes Out?
Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto finally returns today from a strained oblique, an injury that’s had him out for the better part of a month. Soto, who had just started to hit when he went down with the injury, had a successful rehab stint in the minors. The Cubs hope he’ll bring his big boy [...]

The Lord Pretty Much Just Taketh Away: Zambrano’s Back Needs MRI
By Brett on August 8, 2009
Just yesterday, Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella remarked that he was not concerned “at all” about pitcher Carlos Zambrano’s back. A few hours later, Zambrano was scratched from him start, and a few hours after that, the Cubs decided Zambrano needed an MRI. Sigh. “He went out there to warm up, and he says after [...]
