The Cubs Will Scout Oscar Villarreal
A small note here, as it’s unlikely to result in a major league contract. At some point soon, the Chicago Cubs, along with several other teams, will watch rehabbing reliever Oscar Villarreal throw.
The White Sox and Cubs are among the teams invited to watch reliever Oscar Villarreal pitch.
Villarreal, 28, who has nearly six years of major-league experience, will throw Friday at Physiotherapy and Associates in Tempe, Ariz. He underwent reconstructive right-elbow surgery in April of 2009. Chicago Breaking Sports.
Before missing 2009, Villarreal was decent if not particularly good. He sports a career 3.86 ERA and 1.372 WHIP, and has vacillated between pretty good seasons and pretty bad seasons. Presumably, some team will give him a minor league deal and invite him to Spring Training, with a chance to prove himself and make a big club.
