The Chicago Cubs got stomped by the Cleveland Indians 9-2 yesterday, and unfortunately, the Cubs’ lineup was the one featuring most of the regulars. Oopsie doodle. But, hey, it’s all about the battles…

  • Jeff Samardzija tried to impress in what is almost certainly his last Spring outing before Lou Piniella makes his rotation decision. Unfortunately, Samardzija’s start was just OK: 4 innings, 4 hits, 2 walks, 4 Ks, and 2 ER. That works out to a 1.50 WHIP and a 4.50 ERA. Both are thoroughly “meh.”
  • Rule Five pick Mike Parisi may have stamped his ticket out of town with an atrocious performance, giving up four earned while recording exactly zero outs.
  • Andres Blanco finally got back into a game, and had just one hit-free at bat while playing shortstop late. Fellow long-shot bench competitor Sam Fuld went 1-2.
