Series Preview: Marlins v. Cubs, May 10 – May 12, 2010
The Chicago Cubs welcome the Florida Marlins to Chicago after a disastrous road trip. Maybe now that they’re home, they can catch some fish. Yup. That was powerfully lame. Almost as lame as the Cubs’ recent performance. Bam! Nailed it. And you thought I didn’t have a plan. A refresher on the Series Preview here [...]
Zambrano is Still in the Bullpen, And is Staying There
Back-end starting pitchers Carlos Silva and Tom Gorzelanny – so dominant early in the season that moving Carlos Zambrano to the bullpen to allow the two to stay in the rotation didn’t seem insane (just stupid) – have come back to Earth in recent weeks. Not that such a return to averages was entirely unexpected. [...]
Rudy Jaramillo Denies Aramis Ramirez is Refusing Help
Late last week, rumors were swirling that struggling Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez was refusing to work with highly-paid hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo. Ramirez, a successful hitter for many, many years believed that he needed only to deal with his issues at the plate on his own, according to the rumors. Jaramillo says it [...]
Mike Fontenot is Probably on the Trade Block
With Starlin Castro and Ryan Theriot locking down the middle infield for the foreseeable future, former pseudo-starting second baseman Mike Fontenot could very well prove a luxury on the bench that the Cubs would prefer to explore trading. If Castro does what his talent promises, and he sticks this season, Fontenot’s longer-term place with the Cubs doesn’t [...]
Josh Vitters and Andrew Cashner Got Bumped, Too
Starlin Castro wasn’t the only top Chicago Cubs prospect to earn a promotion this weekend. The Cubs’ first round picks in 2007 and 2008 – third baseman Josh Vitters and pitcher Andrew Cashner, respectively – were also promoted. In other Minor League roster moves, the Cubs promoted pitcher Andrew Cashner from Tennessee to Iowa. The [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 3, Reds 5 – May 9, 2010
Another series loss. Ryan Dempster was so good for so many innings, but threw one too many pitches. Oh, and then there’s the pathetic offense. But you knew that.
Bullpen Shakeup: Caridad Back, Gray Out, Grabow Hurt (Hopefully)
As evinced by his appearance in the game last night, Esmailin Caridad has been activated from the disabled list – just in time to have the infield defense crap all over his return. In a corresponding move, the Cubs sent Jeff Gray down to AAA Iowa. Gray was struggling, with a 6.75 ERA, though most [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 2, Reds 14 – May 8, 2010
It was a very exciting game for quite a while. Aaron Harang was dealing. Tom Gorzelanny was struggling, but fighting through it. The Cubs finally broke through to the Reds’ bullpen… and couldn’t do much with it. The Reds finally broke through to the Cubs’ bullpen… and pandas died.
