Brian Schlitter to Chicago, Jeff Stevens to Iowa
The Chicago Cubs middle reliever shuffle continues as today the team activated Brian Schlitter from the 15-day DL, and sent Jeff Stevens back to AAA Iowa. Stevens couldn’t get his ERA under six, making him a relatively obvious choice to head out – although, Schlitter hasn’t yet been terribly impressive. Semi-relatedly: still waiting on word [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Cardinals 0, Cubs 5 – July 23, 2010
Randy Wells is officially back, y’all (as I said he was in the Series Preview). And better still? The Cubs actually knocked around a guy whom they should knock around.
Series Preview: Cardinals v. Cubs, July 23 – July 25, 2010
It’s series preview time again as the Chicago Cubs welcome some nondescript, totally forgettable NL Central team to Wrigley. The Robins, is it? The Ravens? A refresher on the series preview here at Bleacher Nation: The idea is to hook you up with the bare minimum of what you need to know about every series [...]
Obsessive Ted Lilly Trade Watch: Ted Lilly “Will Get Traded”
We’re just a week away from the non-waive trade deadline, and the Chicago Cubs have yet to make a move. But having just lost two of three to the woeful Astros, the Cubs have no doubt cemented their status as sellers – and the first piece to go will probably be pitcher Ted Lilly. Unlike [...]
Zambranogate: Carlos Pitches Scoreless, but Shaky, Inning for Iowa
Carlos Zambrano is working his way back to the Chicago Cubs after a long, self-induced layoff. He threw an inning last night for AAA Iowa, and although he didn’t give up a run, the performance was altogether “meh.” Zambrano, who pitched one inning for the Mesa Rookie League team on Monday, threw 15 pitches, 10 [...]
Obsessive New Manager Watch: Already So Many Candidates to Replace Lou Piniella
Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella isn’t but two days into his official lame duck period, having announced earlier this week that he would retire at the end of this season. But that’s not stopping the cavalcade of folks interested in becoming the next Cubs manager from perking right up – well, or at least it’s [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Astros 4, Cubs 3 – July 21, 2010
That was certainly not a fun game to watch, but don’t miss the story.

On Free Agent Draft Compensation and Making Trades
By Brett on July 22, 2010
This time of year, trade ideas are thrown around like so many flying fish in Seattle. Most will never happen – indeed, most could never happen – but it’s still fun. Let’s send this overpriced, skill-declining guy to this team for these seven top 100 prospects. I could totally do this GM thing! Increasingly, however, [...]
