Raise a collective thanks, as Chicago Cubs outfielder Tyler Colvin, impaled by the flying bat of a teammate, is going to be fine.
“I talked to him, he will be fine,” Hendry said Saturday. “Obviously that was a potential disastrous situation. I think if you were playing three weeks from now, he could possibly play. So he’s going to be OK. … Going to take it real easy and make sure he’s 100 percent. He doesn’t have to rush off to winter ball or anything like that. I am sure Doc (Stephen) Adams will have him in here to be examined in the next week or two. I talked to (Colvin) the other day, right when he was ready to leave and drive home. He feels confident, and so do the doctors, that there won’t be any long-term effects.”…
“We will kind of see where he’s at and how much he can handle,” said Hendry of the team’s plans for Colvin. “You don’t need to ask him twice to, ‘Hey, come down to Mesa for a while,’ or ‘Come down and do this strength program for a while, it’s going to help you.’ He’s an all-in guy, and certainly a guy we are going to count on in the future.” Chicago Breaking Sports.
Colvin will probably rest and recover this Fall before resuming normal baseball and strength activities this Winter.
Unless the Cubs are able to unload Kosuke Fukudome (or Alfonso Soriano – HA!) this offseason, Colvin will enter the 2011 season in only slightly better standing than 2010. He’ll still be battling for playing time, but his ability to play passable defense at all outfield spots makes him a tremendously valuable player, even if he isn’t a starter.
Colvin should be playing 1b during spring training if the outfield stays intact. Fukodome will be better next year as he was litterly screwd by Lou & his staff in 2010.
When he played he produced plus there is no better defender in RF than Fukodome.
When Quade made the comment, “I will play Colvin at 1b the last game of the Year”
he lost a ton of votes by the fans for Manager in 2011. that was a wise – ass comment
to the people who were told that why he was out for almost of week of playing time. When “Q” took over ended that theory. Thats when Hendry should have stepped in.
