Mike Quade Benched Starlin Castro, and May Have Scored Points in the Process
On Sunday, Starlin Castro lost track of the number of outs in the 7th inning of an 18-5 drubbing at the hands of the Mets. He hit a grounder, believing there to be two outs, and jogged to first – he was promptly made the latter part of a double play. Interim manager Mike Quade [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Astros 4, Cubs 5 – September 6, 2010
Four early ones proved, um, not too much to overcome. Xavier Nady had a hilariously bad day, and Casey Coleman was great except for one inning. But my eye was drawn to Darwin Barney, replacing Starlin Castro for the day, who was benched for failing to run out a grounder this weekend.
Series Preview: Astros v. Cubs, September 6 – September 8, 2010
It’s Series Preview time again, as the Chicago Cubs welcome the streaking Houston Astros to Wrigley Field for a three-game set. Not unlike the Cubs, the Astros keep winning, but it keeps not mattering. Time for the Series Preview: The idea is to hook you up with the bare minimum of what you need to [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Mets 18, Cubs 5 – September 5, 2010
The 2010 version of the Chicago Cubs are excellent at bringing out the best in their opponents. James Russell and Thomas Diamond were particularly gracious today. But let’s be real. It’s not as if another loss is really going to cripple the Cubs at this point…
Carlos Silva’s Return Officially Set for Tuesday
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Carlos Silva will return to the team on Tuesday, making a start against the Houston Astros. The start will be his first since August 1 when he left a start against the Rockies with an elevated heart rate. He has since undergone a minor, corrective heart procedure and two rehab starts [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Mets 3, Cubs 5 – September 4, 2010
Another Carlos Zambrano start, another Cubs win. You can’t argue with the success, but it has been very easy to argue with Zambrano’s actual pitching. Until yesterday.
Welington Castillo Back to Chicago
Yesterday the Chicago Cubs recalled catching prospect Welington Castillo (whose name still has one too few “Ls” for my taste, but whateves), who will serve as the third catcher and bat off the bench for the rest of the year. Castillo is no doubt auditioning to be Geovany Soto’s back-up next year, which would allow [...]
Enhanced Box Score: Mets 6, Cubs 7 – September 3, 2010
Blake DeWitt continues to rock as a Cub, and Starlin Castro had another couple hits. Alfonso Soriano was hilarious in the outfield, but he’s sure mashing at the plate.
