It was a near certainty a couple weeks ago, so it’s no surprise: Alan Trammell is heading West to serve as a bench coach on Kirk Gibson’s Diamondbacks club.

The D-backs are expected to complete their coaching staff by hiring Alan Trammell, Don Baylor and Charles Nagy, according to an industry source.

Trammell, who will be named bench coach, served in a similar capacity for four years for the Cubs. He will replace Bo Porter, who was dismissed at the end of the season. dbacks.com.

The writing may have been on the wall as early as August, when Trammell was passed over in favor of Mike Quade for the Cubs’ interim manager spot. Trammell has been with the Cubs since 2007, when he joined the team as a bench coach with Lou Piniella.

what is it that Hank and Ricky didn’t like about Tram? I had the feeling Hank felt the same about Sandberg. Tram today is what Sandberg was as a player, never said a word.

Oddly, you’re correct. Still, Ryno’s experience handling a roster as head cheese will benefit him when he eventually does land an MLB gig.
