As the offseason approaches, the Chicago Cubs will have to clear some space on the 40-man roster if they intend to add to the team (or at least, intend to add other youngsters to the 40-man). To that end, the Cubs have outrighted pitcher Jeff Gray to AAA Iowa, according to the Daily Herald, putting the 40-man at 37.

Gray, who appeared in just 7 games for the Cubs this year, was the meat in the Aaron Miles/Jake Fox deal earlier this year (together with the $1.7 million the team saved in salary), but never quite put it together. Injuries derailed his Spring Training, and when he finally made the club, he was ineffective.
