You can’t say you’re surprised, can you?

Today, Sandberg was announced as the new manager of the Phillies’ AAA club in Lehigh Valley (the Iron Pigs… yup). As a lover scorned, there was no chance Sandberg would return to the Cubs’ organization in 2011, even if it meant taking the very same job with another organization. He’ll continue to bide his time until a Major League coaching opportunity arises, and thereafter, a managerial gig. I, for one, wish him the best of luck, and hope that he returns some day after his wild oats are thoroughly sewed.

Sandberg reportedly chose the Phillies over the Red Sox, and cited “family feel,” and “respect” as among the reasons for taking the Phillies’ offer.
