Even less likely than Victor Martinez, the Chicago Cubs were once connected with San Francisco Giant Aubrey Huff for their first base opening. The connection shriveled quickly with Huff’s apparent ardor to return to San Francisco, and today, it died when Huff re-signed with the Giants. He gets two years and $22 million, which is (once again) a pretty weighty sum. The Giants probably paid a bit more per year to shorten the deal to two years, but even after a resurgent offensive year, $11 million for Huff seems on the high side.
