The Chicago Cubs are considering moving starter Tom Gorzelanny, according to sources, and at least one team has contacted the Cubs about the lefty.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Chicago Cubs are actively shopping left-handed starter Tom Gorzelanny, and a source with knowledge of the situation said the Tigers have contacted the Cubs in regard to obtaining him.

Though, the clubs’ conversations appear to be in the early stages. MLive.com.

Gorzelanny is set to make less than $3 million in his second year of arbitration, so he carries quite a bit of value this offseason, and the Cubs would be wise to at least put out feelers – even though dealing Gorzelanny would leave the team without a lefty in the rotation, and with a hole that would have to be filled. Gorzelanny is a potential piece in the speculated Chris Davis/Darren O’Day deal, whose status is in doubt following the anticipated Carlos Pena signing.

Jim Hendry has said that the Cubs aren’t shopping any of their big league pieces, which is, of course, ridiculous. But nevertheless, he describes his role this week as that of the “inquirer;” one who is trying to make his team better in 2011.

if they trade T. G., that would open up a spot for Sean as a SP.
