It was easy to get excited about the prospect of former Chicago Cubs employee Mark Prior returning to the club who paid him so much for such a questionable attitude and such questionable decision-making with respect to his injuries. Indeed, it was almost too titillating to bear. But alas, Prior has elected to sign with the Yankees.

This pitcher was Mark Prior, briefly one of the most dominating starting pitchers in baseball when he played for the Chicago Cubs earlier this decade. But Prior, 30, has not pitched in the majors since 2006 because of a series of arm injuries.

His agent said Prior agreed to a minor league contract with the Yankees and would go to spring training in the hope of making the team as a relief pitcher.

“What he has learned over his years being injured is to not overanticipate, but he is healthy and ready to get back on the mound,” said the agent, John Boggs.

If he makes it back to the bigs, good for him. But this is a very small puddle of spilled milk.
