There are a few pieces of Spring Training information for you this morning, none of which was quite substantial enough to merit its own post, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t totally be interested in the following…
- Tyler Colvin will get his first start at first base on Friday. The Cubs would very much like him to be the primary backup at first this year, and Colvin would very much like to not look like a fool at the position – he hasn’t played there regularly since high school (6+ years ago).
- Manager Mike Quade isn’t too upset about the rash of errors thus far (9 in 3 games), but Ryan Dempster says “[Mike] Quade’s going to start cutting off fingers, he said, one at a time. Every error is a finger cut off so you better start making plays or you’re not going to have a glove hand.”
- Folks are saying outfielder Fernando Perez is going to miss some time with a bruised shoulder after a dive on Monday. The timing is quite bad for Perez, who’s trying to win a spot on the Cubs’ bench by out-dueling Reed Johnson. Every game Perez misses means Johnson’s chances of winning improve.
