According multiple reports, today, the Chicago Cubs placed not only
starter Andrew Cashner on the disabled list (with a strained right
rotator cuff), but also starter Randy Wells. Cashner’s ailment was
known, but until now, I had no idea that Wells was suffering from a
strained right forearm. Neither pitcher is expected to need surgery,
but the Cubs will re-evalute in a couple weeks. Mike Quade has said we
might not see either pitcher for a few weeks. We’ll have more
details/head explosions later.

In corresponding moves, the Cubs are expected to recall Casey Coleman
to fill one of the now vacant rotation spots. The other move is yet
undetermined, but current bullpenner James Russell could get a spot
start.
