The Chicago Cubs are in for a stiff test this weekend against the NL’s best team (so far), the Colorado Rockies. They actually get some favorable pitching matchups, but the Rockies are just on fire. Taking two in this series will be an uphill battle. Not to depress you…

  • You don’t need me to tell you that Sam Fuld has been all-universe for the Tampa Bay Rays, while the guy(s) in favor of whom the Cubs discarded him (Reed Johnson and Fernando Perez) have been useless, at best. You also don’t need me to tell you that Fuld wouldn’t be getting this type of playing time with the Cubs had he stayed, but sure would have been a nice 4th/5th outfielder to have. But you do need me to tell you that the Rays have already scheduled a Sam Fuld night on May 29. And not just any Sam Fuld night. A Superhero Sam Fuld night. That’s right. Fans (all six of ’em) will get capes. Capes.
  • Angel Guzman continues to rehab, but he’s still pitching only every 5th day. It remains possible that he could return later in the season.
  • Was Carlos Zambrano so jacked up about his 400+ foot bomb in the top of the 6th inning on Wednesday night that he came out unfocused in the bottom of the 6th (in which he gave up five runs)? “No, it’s not like the first time I’ve hit a home run,” Zambrano said. “It’s number 22. I’ve been excited 22 times.”
  • Something not depressing: if you haven’t already seen it, do yourself a favor and check out this hilarious article on ESPN’s player pictures. Geo Soto is featured and summarily slapped.

I don’t believe at the end of the season, we’ll be lamenting the loss of Sam Fuld. I don’t believe that Angel Guzman will ever do anything meaningful for the Cubs again. I don’t believe the home run had anything to do with Zambrano’s struggle. I don’t believe I can fly.

    Well said, veryzer.

Ace, that link about the player pictures is great! Some funny descriptions of players on there. You really can’t argue about their one on Soto lol. Though my favorite has to be #3, Jesse Chavez. Vote For Pedro!

I think everyone knew Sam Fuld could be an exciting player, but he was just rotting away in the Cubs minor system. I think getting rid of him was more a favor by Hendry sending him somewhere he could get some actual playing time.

I told you guys a year ago that Sam Fuld would be getting a cape night. Didn’t I?

I’m very happy for Sam Fuld. It’s tough to not root for a guy like that. And as Ace said, there’s no way he’d be getting much playing time had he stayed on the Cubs anyway.

I hope he continues to kick @$$, and makes the all-star team.
