The implications for the Cubs and/or the Ricketts Family are unclear, but probably not serious, if they exist at all. I think. Well, I hope.

I’m concerned. But I’m not going to go apeshit just yet. If he does indeed tank, then it should be a foregone conclusion that Hendry takes the fall. I think Hendry should go anyway but if Garza fails then it should be a fait accompli.
i’ll always have a hard time understanding this trade. the cubs already had four 2-3-4 starters. we needed an ace and no one thought that was garza. they were barely a 500 team before and that hasnt changed
Exactly! Hendry trades 4 of the organization’s (arguably) top prospects for a non-need. A starting pitcher. Then he doesn’t even get a #1. Other GMs have given up less for the likes of Halladay, Lee and Oswalt, et al. Hendry needs to go. Before his contract expires after the 2012 season.
I wasn’t able to watch the game, but weren’t most of those runs scored due to defensive errors and misreads?
Not really – with a better read, Byrd could have caught Iannetta’s triple, but Garza’s the one who loaded the bases (two singles and a walk).
Lets not freak out yet. Garza got off to a slow start last season and he finished the season strong. If he is still losing games in may then we have a problem. Its only been two games.
Three, but the point remains.
Garza’s fastball is real flat right now. Last year he could get away with throwing the 4 seamer nearly down the middle and letting it break one way or the other. That’s kind of the issue with pitchers throwing the 4 seamer, unless you have Nolan Ryan type speed or a Koufax curve, you will get hurt with a straight fastball unless you can spot it and change speeds.
