Today’s game against Ted Lilly is a pretty big one, giving the Chicago Cubs a chance to win a series that they probably had no business winning. Here’s hoping the “good” Z shows up.

  • Carlos Pena hit his first homer of the season last night, after more than a month of games. His seventh inning bomb tied the game at one, and was a pretty important moment in the game. Hopefully it’s an important moment in Pena’s season, too. He says that he’s relieved to finally get one, and that his teammates have always been behind him. Say what you will about his performance thus far, but he always says the right thing.
  • Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner didn’t experience any post-throwing-session pain yesterday (they threw off the mound on Monday). Each throws again today, and then, if all goes well, it’s off to rehab assignments.
  • Jeff Baker is still struggling with an achy left shoulder/biceps area, but Mike Quade hopes Baker can start today against Lilly.
  • Quade and Kosuke Fukudome are optimistic that this is the year he carries his successful April on into the following months (he’s 1-8 so far in May). Forgive me if I’m not so optimistic: Fukudome’s career batting average is 100 points lower post-April than it is in April.
  • Alfonso Soriano is honoring the memory of his mother this Sunday (Mother’s Day) by helping out one of her favorite causes, a school for children in need in the Dominican Republic. His efforts will also help Connections for Abused Women and their Children in Chicago.

Pena is making $10 mil per home run!

Hell of a nice guy though.

Maybe we think of paying for good comments and warm fuzzy feelings… Then it’s not so bad

Good on Sori… Cubs fans give him a ton of ribbing for his contract vs. performance. We need to recognize that he’s human just like us and celebrate the good he accomplishes as well. I’m sure his mother would be proud for setting up the foundations in her honor.

Break out the Cy Young award and home-run title, we’re on a one game roll!
