You know, the only thing that sucks more than not having a chance to come back in a game because it’s called early is giving up a ton of free runs early such that your team becomes the one hoping for the chance to come back. If the Cubs didn’t the nightmarish performances back-to-back to start the game, it’s entirely possible that we’re the ones doing the rain dance in the 7th inning, not the Mets. As it was, the game was called, and the Cubs lost. Freaking sucks all around.

this team is HORRIBLE!!! blow it up and start all over…

  • Raymond Robert Koenig

    Rubber game today. Win? Lose?

    • Ace

Decent chance, given the pitching matchup. After being destroyed by Wakefield, I like the Cubs’ chances to handle Dickey today.

      • Dan0mite

First off “handle Dickey”, nice. Secondly, the Cubs looked pathetic against Wakefield and I expect no different today.

  • Michigan Goat

Wow the whole Davis or Coleman debate just got easier. As long as Davis doesn’t go less than 2 innings I suspect Coleman will go back to AAA, and I was really hoping Coleman would stick around and get better but we’ve had a good sample to look at and it’s not pretty.

    • Ace

Coleman alternates good and bad starts. Very strange.

      • Michigan Goat

This is why I want him to stay in the rotation over Davis, maybe there is something mental going on but since this season is a loss I’d rather see Coleman or another youngster get starts over Davis… But this organization loves to play mediocre vets over youth.

Berg should be on a (short) bus back to Iowa immediately.

    • Joey

A “short” bus back to Iowa?

…you mean like the special needs kids buses?

  • Curt

Going to be a very long summer this organization cant make up it’s mind do we go young or play vets who are not producing( aramis Ramirez )wonder how he’d like a couple weeks St Iowa myb he’d figure out it’s not a right to be in the majors

  • hotbat

I think Coleman will be good next start and I hope so.

    Haha!
    2 more RBI for Johnson!
Don’t get me wrong – I’m not a huge fan of his (I certainly like him), but I just can’t help noticing how much he’s helped the team this year….

  • Spencer

Didn’t really expect to win this game based on the pitching matchup. But given how the Cubs jumped out to an early lead and how we had a pitcher throw 12 balls and no strikes and it took three pitchers to get through 2 innings…..yeah. Cubs coulda won. Let’s just go with a four man rotation for the rest of the season.

    • Ace

Can the Cubs go with a zero man rotation until Garza comes back?

  • http://twitter.com/thomaswconroy TWC

Ace, this is one of those times where yo’d like to be highlighting the bottom-line pitching stats, eh?

It’s too bad about the way earned runs are awarded to pitchers. Sure, Coleman pitched an awful inning-ish and did allow those two Mets to reach base that were eventually walked in, but Berg was reeeeeeemarkably terrible. He should be charged with a few extra runs just for being such an ass.

    • Ace

I’ve always thought “earned runs” should be apportioned by base when they involve inherited runners. For example, I leave with a man on first, and the reliever allows him to score. I should get 0.25 earned runs scored, the reliever should get 0.75 earned runs scored. Where is Fangraphs when you need them?

Reed Johnson, again. See my comment yesterday.

Also, I know that 3 walks in a row isn’t a record, but I’m wondering if 12 straight pitches for balls is. That sentence sucked, sorry, but you know what I mean.

I was so snarky watching the game that I actually stood up and clapped when Berg walked the third guy.

“Bravo, Berg. Bravo. They said that 12 straight balls couldn’t be done, but you proved ‘em wrong! Congratulations!”

Miguel Asencio walked 4 White Sox on 16 pitches for the Royals in 2002.

It was his first inning in his first game in the majors.

      Ouch.

  • Joey

    4 words:

    WHY ISNT RUSSELL STARTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ;)

    • Spencer

      seriously?

      • Joey

no, no, no, no, no; not seriously

didnt you see the emotion-face thingy? I added the emotion-face thingy…

        • Spencer
