It sounds like Marlon Byrd, who is back in Chicago after a rehab stint in Iowa, will be activated today. Byrd hasn’t played in about eight weeks after being hit in the face by a fastball in Boston on May 21.

He’s already been slotted into today’s starting lineup, so he must be good to go. It will be very interesting to see how Byrd looks in the box the first time he takes one high and tight – though he was hit in his first game at Iowa and it didn’t affect him.

The Cubs are expected to send Lou Montanez out in order to clear a spot for Byrd. Montanez had a .239/.271/.370 in 46 at bats this time around with the Cubs.
