Quantcast

The Ryan Dempster/Mike Quade dust-up will be the primary discussion piece from this game (about which, more later), but, setting that aside, the Cubs had a nice win here.

top 4 is probably about what it should have been all along

    • Michigan Goat

Agreed, which means Q is bound to change it

      • Joe

I bet right now he’s thinking “Alright, this one works. Now let’s try this…”

        • Michigan Goat

Can you say Hill our next leadoff man

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

I wish the cubs would let Hill go and bring up Wellington Castillo

    • Dan0mite

The only problem with that is, you are asking a kid that is still learning to sit 5 days a week.

  • BT

I can remember when Quade was a complete moron for NOT batting him 3rd.

I remember when he was a moron for sticking to Byrd batting third. I remember when he was a moron for not batting Ramirez third. I don’t remember when he was a moron for not batting Castro third – though it was definitely worth trying.

      • Michigan Goat

Brett didn’t you have a post where you laid out the argument that Castro should bat third.

        • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

I did (back in April). Here it is: http://www.bleachernation.com/2011/04/26/why-starlin-castro-should-remain-in-the-three-hole-for-now/

Notable quotes include, “There’s nowhere else to put him. For now.” And, “Usually, a guy is in the three hole because he’s *the* guy. Right now, Castro might very well be *the* guy, but I’m not convinced.”

My conclusion was that he should continue to get a look in the three-hole because no other iteration of the lineup made sense at the time (mostly because Barney was raking in the two-hole, and Fukudome was doing nicely leading off). The money quote:

“I’m not saying that Castro should be the number three hitter in perpetuity. In fact, I fully expect that Fukudome will cool, Barney will revert to his minor league career averages, and there will be two better choices for Castro in the lineup. But until those things happen, Castro should remain in the three hole.”

          I win at the Internet.

I was right there with you at that point and even applauded Q for putting him there, but I think everyone can agree it takes Q too long to see the error of his ways. I hope he keeps the current lineup as is, but I hope he starts to give Castro some rest as we get into the hot part of the season and let’s not forget Castro has never played this much baseball. I hope he starts to give him the day off on games before off days.

I cringed every time he had Castro batting third.

    Fukudome has only 12 RBI???
    Eesh!

I really enjoyed listening to Soup Campbell last night. Maybe Q will canned at the break, Brenly will coach in the interim and Soup can do the color. I know these moves don’t mean much in the standings for this year but it would at least send the message from Ricketts that this BS is unacceptable. Ricketts has gotta see that Q and Hendry’s cred is already shot. He’s only hurting himself by leaving them in the job.
