Well, at least the game was such a blowout that the thought of someone coming in for a save never even remotely entered the equation. We takes what we can gets. Also, we stinks.

  • Steve

On the positive side: one day closer to the 31st.

  • Kyle N

Javier Vazquez with ten strikeouts? Wow. The on-the-ropes journeyman revival tour continues against the Cubs.

Mike Stanton is absolutely crushing the baseball. A twenty-one year old with that kind of developed power already? Simply freakish. . .

  • Toosh

The Cubs have guys like him in the minors. Just a couple of years away.

  • Toosh

I have a feeling Hendry won’t do much by the 31st and he’ll use 1 or 2 excuses. He’ll say trades can still be made before August 31st as long as the players clear waivers or he’ll say the players he didn’t trade figure into the Cubs plans for next season.

    • CapnCub

I sure hope your feeling is wrong.

  • ry

The worthless cubs make every pitcher look better; magic number is now at 67! i have almost stopped caring about these losers, becoming more and more comedic every day.

  • die hard

Why not bring up every minor leaguer over 30 and dangle in front of other teams for 5 days

  • Cheryl

I bet some of the cubs are saying, ‘What’s the use.’ The fans sure are. No plan. No remedy in sight and Quade and Hendry keep doing what they have in the past – losing; and building a losing ball club. Even if the cubs get the number 1 draft pick next season, What good will it do with this type of management?

  • Keith

    Grabow tore it up!

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      Quick! Trade him!

  • Toosh

Well put. No plan. No remedy. Just keep doing as in the past. There’s a saying. “Those that don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it”. Looks like the Cubs’ history is going to keep repeating itself.

  • BOOO

The opposing starting pitcher could be 0-10 with a 4.00+ ERA and he could throw 7 innings with 0 ER and 10 K’s. On the positive note: one more game closer to the end of the season. These guys SUCK. I wish people would just stop going to games and starting booing the entire team because they deserve it. I am sorry Mr. Wood, that you came to a team like, but you will win soon when they give you the best present- a trade!

  • Toosh

How about a poll? Who will Hendry trade before July 31st? If anyone, my money is on Byrd, Grabow and Pena.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

I think Fukudome is more likely to go than Byrd or Pena, but they’re all good guesses. I think Ramirez will eventually go as well, even if it’s in August.

  • die hard

they have to decide today what starting 25 will be next year…then start moving tomorrow in that direction cause this season is over…kaput….

  • ry

it could be even scarier if we trade pena, aram and byrd; who the hell will fill those roles next year; maybe we will win 40 games next year. pujols will remain a cardinal, we couldnt be lucky enough to get fielder so who is gonna play first, colvin and his .164 average. it is gonna be a long time before the cubs become relevant again in the standings i am afraid.

  • ramin

Hendry is going to screw this up come the trade deadline. I don’t c how ricketts can trust hendry giong forward. What’s the holdup jim still thinking this team is going to salvage this season.

This idiot today optioned carpenter today to make room for ortiz, that shows how much faith the cubs have in their system. Also they keep signing the 80 year old pitchers hoping they can make something of this season when you you have guys like jackson, struck, mcnutt waiting in the wings. Why not bring them up m see what they have so u can evauluate for next year. I no jackson hasn’t pitched well in aaa but he coudnt be worse than what we have.

Iam tired of this entire orginization, they never learn after each year. Ricketts hides in his office putting his entire life on hendrys hands. Fire hime immediatly bring steve stone as gm,that man knows his baseball.

    • Ron

Ace isn’t part of the reason they don’t just call up young kids is because it starts the the clock on eligibility or something like you have 3 years to get them to the bigs full time or you can lose them to the rule 5 draft or something. I remember you were making the argument with calling up LaMaihue.

      • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Once you reach three years of service time, you’re eligible for salary arbitration, so yes. It matters.

  • Steve

Stone speaks his mind, and doesn’t mince words…which got him out of Wrigleyville. The front office wants “yes men”. They will never employ a realist.

  • Vince

At least we didn’t have to witness another Quade/Marmol meltdown.

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

Well guys you know you were going to hear from me sooner or later..you know my thoughts of Ramirez is! He’s definately carring our team…he accounted for all of Runs today..just imagine if we had some pitching?..Cubs should have won 2 of 3

    • Toosh

Ramirez only plays when it’s too late.

    • Jeff

Since Ramirez’ hot streak began on June 1, the Cubs are 15-27, I wonder what exactly Ramirez is carrying this team to.

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

Let’s face it now the NFL is going to play..iam ready to see my Bears get back to the playoffs..Da Bears!!!

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

The Cubs season is over with…even the bankrupt Dodgers are playing better than we are

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

Toosh..at least he does show up

  • Toosh

He gets part of his salary in April and May. It would be nice if he showed up then, too.
