Trade Deadline Blogathon: Hour 12

I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter – for 24 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The plan is to do a little recap like this periodically through the day/night. We’ll see if the “plan” still holds by hour 20 when I’m starting to suspect my keyboard might be chocolate.

Tiredness hit me hard in the last hour or so. I’m not sure if it’s the lack of action (and the commensurate drop in adrenaline) or just the lack of sleep. But, either way, the Sandman has slapped me in the face. Only twelve hours to go.

News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:

Nothing in the Cubs’ world. I put together some bits about the Cubs holding onto Matt Garza, and maybe making some minor moves today, but there’s just not much action right now.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

Jim Hendry has suggested that the Cubs could be major players in the free agent market after the season. Hooray! Then again, in doing so, Hendry also suggested that he’ll be around after the season.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

I guess the Cubs aren’t the only crummy team that appears to be holding onto players with little justification.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Exercise. I’m hoping that staying active will keep me up and alert until the sun comes up.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

You know, some of Lady Gaga’s songs really aren’t that bad.

Sleep deprivation is terrible thing. Let this be a lesson to all you kids out there – don’t try this at home!
