I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter – for 24 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The plan is to do a little recap like this periodically through the day/night. We’ll see if the “plan” still holds by hour 20 when I’m starting to suspect my keyboard might be chocolate.

Ah, the wee hours of the morning. It’s the time when I can post just about anything with impunity. Pictures of kittens? Sure. My thoughts on a counter-Impressionist revolution in post-war Spain? Why not. Completely made up phrases like “counter-Impressionist revolution in post-war Spain”? You bet. Cubs rumors? Oh, I guess.

News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:

Nothing in the Cubs’ world. I did hear about the Cubs approaching Kerry Wood about a trade to Philadelphia at some point in the recent past, but Wood said no thanks. CCO says Bruce Levine was reporting it, though no one seems to have written an article. If true, Wood *really* doesn’t want to leave Chicago.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

That the Rich Harden to Boston trade fell apart at the very last moment is a reminder that dozens and dozens of trades reach varying stages of completion – from mere talks, to exchanging names, to handshake agreements, and so on – without actually being completed. How many do we never even hear about?

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

When you’ve started hoping the Cubs are working the phones to move John Grabow, optimism is at a nadir.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Starbucks mocha frappuccino. I’m naughty!

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

Since it came up in the comments, it’s been absolutely stuck in my head: The Cleveland Tourism Videos. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Enjoy:

There’s a second video that’s funnier than the first. But, for some reason, I’m not permitted to embed it. Here is is on YouTube.

Current drink; cherry bombs. Your move.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

I’m not familiar with cherry bombs. And I’d love to join you on the booze side of things, but about one beer would be enough to knock me out – if not now, then in about five hours.

Current move: driving back to stlouis from the kenny chesney and zac brown concert in kansas city. Might be a boring next 15 hrs for you from all accounts.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

If only the Cubs had looked at Chesney when he was still a prospect.

  • LouCub

Jim Hendry is so in denial about where this team stands that he’s actually squandering a golden opportunity to completely reconstruct his hideous abortion of a team,, If TRUE Cub fans would just stay the hell away from Wrigley Field for the next few weeks maybe Ricketts will feel our pain and fire the miserable fat ass!!!

  • ReiCow

I think Hendry is not going to make a trade merely to spite Ace (and those of us reading the site) in his all nighter! 24 hours of sheer boredom from Cubs HQ.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

I knew there was something about him that I didn’t like…

      • ReiCow

Honestly, this has to be the lamest all nighter forever for you.. nothing is happening…

        • Joe Cartwright

I’m having fun. But, Ace, you should totally call Hendry and tell him to get his butt in gear.

          • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

            He stopped taking my calls…

            • Fishin Phil

              So did I.

            • Joe Cartwright

I can see him rocking back and forth in a fetal position going
“Make the ringing stop! Make it stop! I’m not trading anybody! Just make it stop!”

              • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Occasionally reaching for a handful of meringue, scooped carelessly from the top of a pie.

  • LouCub

@ ReiCow, I really believe that is the truth..he thinks he’s something special and knows better than the minions…well he doesn’t he’s not the same agressive GM who took the position over in 2002, he’s a lump of fat shit!!!

  • Joe Cartwright

That’s the video they showed Jiminez and Fukudome to get them to come over.
