      Muskat has pissed me off recently. she’s too nice and has no real critism of a super bad team ..you’d think she was covering the Red Sox or Rangers

      i wonder who signs her checks..

        Eh. I don’t think Muskat is that bad. It’s understandable that she’d be less critical of the Cubs than most (though it’s been increasing slightly). She generally presents the facts, gets the quotes, and moves on. I kind of like that.

    f’n hilarious ..Brett were there rumblings of Pena going to the Diamondbacks? they brought up their Double A stud Goldschmidt recently so we missed out on that i guess too

      Yes, there were (but almost certainly wouldn’t have involved Goldschmidt), though not for a couple weeks.

      I’d say it’s a 99% lock that the reason the D-Backs kept him down until after the deadline was in case they needed him in a trade (he would have been more attractive as a guy who had yet had an option year used). Trades didn’t happen, so up he comes. Kind of a risky strategy for a team desperately in the need of production from first base.

    If the current crop of tradable Cubs are as bad as some people think, could it be that what was offered for them was so bad that keeping them would still be better than what we would have gotten in return?

      Yes, but this has been explored in non-humorous blackout poetry posts. It’s conceivable, but “so bad” is a relative thing. We’ll probably never know the truth.

      The real crime was in refusing to listen to offers at all for some players.
