Enhanced Box Score: Reds 4, Cubs 11 – August 6, 2011

Johnny Cueto’s ERA coming into today’s game was 1.72. It’s now over two. Who are these Cubs?

Carlos Zambrano pitched adequately, and homered, while the offense (sans Marlon Byrd, who played nicely in the field, though) tore it up. That’s seven wins in a row for those counting at home.

Alfonso Soriano did some things he hasn’t done in a long time…

    Countdown to the you-know-what: 13

I had to watch it on Fox Sports South channel. It’s funny how the Reds announcers start praising how good the other team is when the Reds get their butts handed to ‘em.

I just keeping hearing R.E.M.’s “it’s the end of the world as you know it.”. What really concerns me is that the attendance has looked great these games which just adds to Hendry Kool-aid he’s passing around. Just a move away from greatness, just a move away, just a move away…

I highly doubt that finishing strong is going to change Ricketts plans for next year on what we will and wont do.

      1. MichiganGoat

Hendry is a genius, bold changes are bad, we are a couple of moves away… Have you tried the Kool-aid it’s heavenly, drink brother drink.

        1. Toosh

CRickett looks like he’s tried it.

          1. CapnCub

No thanks on the koolaid, Ricketts says what he says to get the media to stay away. I still have faith in Ricketts, I dont think he drank any koolaid. We shall see next year. Still got this season to deal with. Blah

The cool-aid, its wonderful. Tastes great. is this the same stuff Jim Jones had everyone drink down in Jonestown?

        3. bobbyd

I drank a glass, but then I puked.

          What does that mean?

I admit that I thought it was Kool-aid from the real “Blue Bus” which is why I tried it in the first place.

Don’t forget that people many from Cincy make Cubs games at Wrigley their summer vacation. Their presence helps along the attendance figures.

“Johnny Cueto’s ERA coming into today’s game was 1.72 coming into today’s game.”

And you want me to nominate you for best specific team blog.

I’m appreciative of Ace (Brett, now. My, it’s been a long time since my last comment) for getting the EBS up so quickly after the game. I’m on break at work and much prefer checking out his quick breakdown and commentary than anything on any official MLB sites.

      1. Bric

Cheers, Cheney. It’s good to see another member of the “Bring Back Ace” fan club.
Seriously, though, the one thing these wins prove is how god awful the N.L. Central is and how easy it would’ve been to stay in contention if the four parts (ownership, management, coaching, and players) had been on the same page since day one.

The difference between the Cards and Brewers and the Cubs is they got their shit together and we don’t.

“Bring back Ace, Bring Back Ace, Bring Back Ace!…”

      2. Dan0mite

I agree with you. I was being sarcastic and giving Ace a hard time; not actually critiquing him.

    7 in a row. 48 games to go. 14.5 out. WTF….

  5. Toosh

This organization couldn’t screw up a wet dream itself out of a paper bag.

  6. ry

Holy Shit, where the F was this 2 months ago. The Reds announcers are huge dorks!

  7. Ron

How many LOB does Byrd have during this win streak, 35? When you have to try and defend someone…..

    1. Joe Cartwright

      Karma

  8. fire hendry and quade

brett in the series preview you had wells pitching this game and zambrano not even pitching in the series. i thought the point of the series preview was to look like hardcore genius fans in front of our friends not idiots in front of our friends!

    1. Ron

      Harsh.

      1. Jim mumford

Yea Brett. And I heard that apple jacks, don’t even taste like apples!!! Explain yourself.

    2. MichiganGoat

Drink the Kool-aid enjoy the pretty colors, relax man everything is amazing.

  9. Toosh

CRicketts’ plan for the offseason. Continuity. Hendry’s? Dump Soriano, if possible. Keep everyone else. Try to add an outfielder and at least one starting pitcher.

  10. chris margetis

Apparently we were just a Fukudome trade away from being great.

  11. fire hendry and quade

im glad u took that as a joke brett cuz thats what it was. at least i think thats how u took it. just giving u a hard time. keep up the good work just dont list grabow marshall and ortiz as the pitchers in the nationals series!

  12. Lynne Hansen-Salak

    Lynne
Brett, you’re the glue that holds this whole shebang together. Picking on CRicketts and Hendry is much more fulfilling!

  13. CubsFanatic

Hendry is having a lot more than just Kool-Aid if he really thinks only a few moves are needed to contend. Anyone else wonder if thats really powdered sugar on his doughnuts anymore?

  14. al

have the cubs lost since you went from ace to brett?

  15. al

i blame it on you ..you shouldve changed your name BEFORE the season started and we would been going on to an unbeaten season and winning the world series….

  16. Dave

How should we look at this:

    A) Castro has nearly as many RBI as Soriano!

    or

    B) Soriano has only two more RBI than Castro, who has hit 1st or 2nd in 68 of his 111 games this year?
