The legend of Tony Campana grows…

The gritty, scrappy, gutsy outfielder legged out an infield hit in the sixth inning to break up Chien-Ming Wang’s no-hit bid tonight, which would have marked the first time the Cubs were no-hit since Sandy Koufax did it (in a perfect game) in 1965. That’s the longest such streak, for the record. Campanarama to the rescue!

Starlin Castro hit his third homer in a week. He had three homers in all of 2010.

Matt Garza was striking fools out until he was taken deep – really deep – twice in the top of the sixth. Wang, who was making just his third start since 2009, was unfortunately better. Thus, Wang gets the enhancement.

The human wang is a beautiful thing
Not really, can’t believe they got shut down by that wanger. Wang really stuck it to the Cubs today. They couldn’t handle the National’s Wang at all. (Not classy, at all!)

  • Dave

    Headline on ESPN’s game recap:

“Chien-Ming Wang gets up 1 hit in 6 innings for first win since 2009”

    “Wang gets up”

    Freudian slip?

Well that’s 2losses in a row after a 7 game winning streak..crazy..Star in Castro continues his tear..Cubs need to focus on pitching..iam all for bringing up Brett Jackson..Let’s see what some of the kids can do..

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

Another thing that crossed my what in the hell are the Angels going go do with Kendry Morales now that they have Trumbow racking.. Now if the Cubs could get Morales..hmm

  • bill

Ramy16, your joking right? Trumbow is not even close to the player Morales is. Trumbow is simply a place holder, maybe he’d move to OF, but other than the power, hes not very good.

    • Jeff

I would take Trumbo at first for the next 5 years or so. It looks like he might be available too, even if the Angels don’t go after Prince.

  • Bridger

Once, when I was in college, the following headline appeared on Yahoo! Sports’ main page…

“Yankees Scratch Wang Because of Weather”

…and a good laugh was had by all

    • Ol’CharlieBrown

      lmao, classic!

    • Brett

      Lovely, indeed.

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

Bill…youre saying if Hendry could pull the deal..don’t?..I would take Morales over Fielder any day..cheaper and has a lot of potential

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

It wouldnt be the first Cuban player we had at first base!..remember the hall of famer to be ..u know that guy named Rafael Palmeiro..that other dip shit manager named Ed Lynch traded to the Rangers

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

The Angels set them selves up really well at first base with morales, trumbow and the first rnd pick was a first base man..if hendry is smart he should talk to Tony riggins GM of the Angels

  • http://BleacherNation Ramy16

Hey Brett whatever happened to lou montanez? The guy was playing really well when Quade was playing him

    • Ol’CharlieBrown

They sent him back down to Iowa to clear up room on the roster for Byrd when he came back.

    • Brett

Still at Iowa. He’s not a Major Leaguer.

  • Madprizamwoo

Bryan LaHair, I know he’s 28 but he’s numbers are very good. 30 db 30 hr this year. Brett is this guy anyone who could help next year? He plays 1b.

    • CubFan Paul

yea, I’d like to see a recent scouting report on LaHair

i won’t say “anything” is better than a guy who gets a hit only 22% of the time with a meager .444 SLG but, damn, somethings got a give (this offseason)

    • Brett

Unlikely. He had a shot in the bigs, and then has had several shots (with different teams) to make the bigs out of Spring Training and has failed to do so each time. Clearly ML scouts don’t like what they see.

  • RY

its a golden rule in baseball now, if you need to end a horrible streak of any kind, just play the cubs! if you wanna get your first win in years or ever, just play the cubs, if you wanna get your first big league hit or homer or walk off rbi, just play the cubs! same shit different day with the cubs!

    • Bric

In baseball, good pitching usually wins over good hitting. Against the Cubs, any pitching wins over their hitting. Speaking of which, Jarimillo has really flown under the radar of verbal assaults this year. Riggins, Quade, and Hendry are all getting lit up, but whatever happened to Bruce Levine’s predictions that Rudy would straighten out the vets’ bats (specifically mentioning Lee, Sori, and A-Ram)?

Just one more reason to clean house from top to bottom and start over. This entire organization is rife with over paid under performing personnel. Nothing personal to these guys, Ricketts, but just clean house and start over.

      • MichiganGoat

This is what happens when you put your faith in a swing first hitting coach, who had success at a hitter friendly park. Hopefully Ricketts new braintrust is preparing for a complete overhaul.
