I think it’s pretty clear that Kosuke Fukudome and Carlos Zambrano were dragging this franchise down.

Randy Wells was minimally effective, and the bullpen was adequate. Starlin Castro and Darwin Barney had eight(!) hits. It was a good game, especially given the distractions.

If Wells pitches like he did tonight every outing i’ll take it. Castro now has 20, 3 or more hits in a game this season.

I wouldn’t take that at all. He is now the #3 pitcher and can never get beyond 5-6 innings. He kills the bullpen almost every time out. He is barely a #5 starter and that is being generous. The Braves whacked him good for 8 hits and several others smashes were right at somebody. 5 innings from a top starter? i don’t think so.

Hmmmm, the more guys we get rid of, the better we play. If we could get rid of Soriano, we are right back in this race!

  • Dave

Colvin will be on the bench for the next week.

Just read on ESPN that Zambrano’s things were returned to his locker last night and that he is “definitely” not retiring. Still hoping that he retires from the Cubs though.

    • Dan0mite

I saw that too, but Paul Sullivan tweeted thus during the game.

“Zambrano agent Barry Praver claims to ESPN that Zambrano returned stuff to his locker. Then again, nothing is in there.”

Hendry made sure it was cleaned out. JK.

good from this game, Castro, Barney, yes Barney the guy many people want replaced, not me, Colvin up to 132 BA, WOW.

the bad, Soriano still here, along with Quade and Hendry. they will be back.

I went to the Bears game after about the 4th inning. Did Marmol seriously get a save for 2 outs when they were already up by 4? I know the whole thing about runners being the potential tieing run and all that but really, the save stat is the stupidest mark of performance in baseball.

Hahahaha Brett you’re too funny, Fuku and Z were CLEARLY dragging this franchise down
