Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 4, Astros 3 – August 15, 2011

A couple of two-run doubles by Carlos Pena and Geovany Soto netted all the scoring the Cubs needed to beat a near-baseball team tonight.

Mike Quade pulled a Mike Quade by leaving Rodrigo Lopez in one batter too long, but the resulting damage was not enough to cost the Cubs the game. Still, if you’re not going seven scoreless and striking out 15 against this Astro lineup, I’m not sure you can call yourself a Major Leaguer.

I saw a pretty interesting stat yesterday that I thought I’d share here.

“Despite going 11-3 since July 31, the #Cubs have dropped one-half game in NL Central, falling 17 games back of first-place #Brewers. #MLB.”

Take from that what you will, I just thought it very interesting.

    Oh yeah, good game tonight.

Nice, interesting indeed noticed that too

Jim Russel, the walking batting practice machine when he was starting, continues to pitch well. Rough estimate in my head that he has an era of around 2.4 since coming back to the bullpen. I have no problem in him returning next season IF there is a manager who knows how to use him.

Ha! All last night all I kept thinking was Sammy each time they said Sosa. Maybe it’s a long lost brother.

This may cause a stir but I really feel that despite all they juicing fiasco that the Cubs really should do a little something for Sammy, I mean he did hit 600 homers. I’m not saying retire his number or anything I just feel like he deserves a little something. McGuire is the Cards hitting coach for crap sake. It’s not like he did anything worse to the Cubs than Zambrano. Thoughts?

Maybe a statue of a forlorn Sammy holding a bat-damaged boom box by the clubhouse entrance?

I would love to see us finally beat meyers like a drum tonight. That dude has owned us the last two years, we can’t hit anything he throws up there. Dumpster needs to be lights out tonight and maybe we can win a 2-1 game!

just a sad footnote to tonights game, meyers has a whopping 3 wins this year, 2 of which came at the hands of the cubs. turn the tide tonight boys!
