Quantcast

The largest crowd at Wrigley Field in 33 years watched the Cubs come back against the Cardinals and take them out on a walk-off hit in the 10th. Randy Wells pitched decently, Darwin Barney had a triple and a homer, and the bullpen was nails.

That’s a good day.

Jim Hendry will be replaced as GM.

That’s a great day.

Wow. Two, count ‘em TWO, colors of blue in the EBS. It’s a big day indeed.

It has literally never been done before (on purpose, anyway). Big days require big moves.

NOW IS THE TIME FOR BOLD COLORS!

Very nice, but there seems to be something missing from the box score. It’s a small thing, like the cherry on top of a sundae.

    Just three little letters.

    I wanted my cherry, damnit!!!

    • Joe Cartwright

Awwww…. About 10 billion exclamation points didn’t show up.

      Anyway, two more questions.
Firing Mike Quade = Colvin starting in Right Field?
Does firing Jim Hendry mean Ricketts will make good on his promise of no Soriano next year?

  • marc

I dont get it… I thought the yankee game had the most people ever at wrigley and what the occasion was today to bring EVERYBODY to the stadium today… specially with the crappy record we have…can anyone explain that?

  • Ron

Ace, Barney must have read the series preview, only singles eh.

    • Joe Cartwright

Now he won’t hit another until next year.

  • MichiganGoat

      Yeah.

Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you.

      Today, we Cub fans win.

Christ, even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

  • STG3

    Ace,
Have any idea on who is on the short list for GM?

  • Fishin Phil

    In all seriousness…

    OK, Hendry is gone.

    Wheee!

So fuckin’ what?!? I mean, I’m as happy as anyone at his leaving but I have to say; Hendry is not the problem and this firing isn’t going to fix anything other than tying a red bow on a stinking turd.

Where do the Cubs go from here?

Putting Hendry in the airlock doesn’t immediately fix the systemic issues the Cubs have.

I like what Tom Ricketts said; “this will be an organization of responsibility”.

If Mr. Ricketts is serious about reforming the culture of the Chicago Cubs then this move is just the beginning. The Cubs organization has been abysmal at evaluating and developing talent. I’m as happy as anyone regarding the potential of this year’s draft but really, if the organization doesn’t have the coaches or the philosophy to nurture that innate talent then the Cubs are still going nowhere.

So Ricketts wants to fire Hendry and make a splash with the fans, then fine. Maybe it’s a sign that no more shitty albatross contracts (like Fielder or Pujols)* will be in the offing.

Regardless, I won’t believe that T.R. has a clue until he fires coaches and hires people who understand how the game of baseball is played and can teach young players to succeed and do their best**. Maybe then, and only then, will the Cubs win a World Series.

*[It’s like finally getting to with the hot girl from your dreams after she’s already had 3 kids with some other dude and has stretch marks. But hey, you get to help raise that asshole’s kids!]

**[Not to beat a dead horse, but it sure as hell seems like Ryno can do that.]

Firing Hendry is like turning your car off when you hear that terrible racket coming from under the hood. Does that actually do anything to fixing it? No, you have to take it to a mechanic (new GM) to get it fixed.
