Well, Mike Quade got his wish for Matt Garza, as the latter evened out his record at 10-10 to finish the season. Garza was strong, as usual, and he’ll go into 2012 as the Cubs’ de facto ace.
The Cubs were set to lose a pitchers’ duel when the bats exploded for five runs in the 8th and 9th innings. Starlin Castro reached base safely for the 39th consecutive game, and hit safely in his 10th straight – that’s his fifth double digit hitting streak on the season.

Obviously. But what if we ate like $13 mil per year? Would it be worth $4 Mil per year?
I think that those type of numbers from a DH are worth more than $4 mil a year.. I think it’s possible that the Cubs could get a team to pay 6-7 mil a year for Soriano. 26 HRs and 88 rbi is pretty good, especially when you don’t have to worry about his defensive liabilities.

If we can trade the same amount of “prospects” for another one of these guys, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately the Cubs no longer have the same “amount” of those kind of prospects (high level, MLB-ready-ish) this time around.
Here’s the question: If this off season, a potential DH hits the market, albeit slightly older, and his line is .244 26 HR’s and 88 RBI, what kind of contract does he pull???

I’d bet it’s a hell of a lot closer to $10 mil than it is to $4 mil per year…

Soriano will be the 2nd best DH bat “available” behind Big Papi for sure and a whole lot cheaper
Agreed 6-8M a year is ahold price for Soriano as a DH.
If I’m an AL team, I wouldn’t “pay” more than $4 to $5 million per year for Soriano, especially over three years.
I didn’t realize dude has 88 RBI…for some reason that seems like his highest total since he’s been here? I am ready for the Soriano era to be over more than anyone, but he did put up some decent power numbers and that HR last night was a bomb. Hopefully someone on the AL side is paying attention and in need of some pop. I think if the Cubs will pay $11 or so million he’ll be attractive to someone.
Oh and Garza is fucking awesome.
