Ah! You thought the EBS was over for the season! Well, it is, mostly. But an occasional dalliance outside of the Cubs’ games is ok.
The Cardinals took a 2-1 NLCS lead last night over the Brewers, as they unfortunately continue to demonstrate that both teams cannot lose.

I’m honestly getting worried, come on Brewers kick their ass!
I honestly would not be surprised if the Brewers blow it. Silly Brew Crew.
I think Theo will make Pujols the first FA signing. I really do. I think it will be his second act after naming Sandberg the manager this year and firing Quade. Or maybe we give him 3rd base back?
There was a time when I would have been okay with giving Quade third base. He certainly did a way, way better job there than The Jesus does.
After seeing him neglect the up-and-comers in favor of padding the veterans’ stats at the end of the season, though, I want him out of the organization. I mean I don’t even want him being an equipment manager in rookie ball.
This is correct. Once he is removed as manager, he will need to move to another club.
Why go after Pujols? He is older and right handed and you have a better chance of not having an overly high priced player on the backend of their contract with Fielder. Isn’t that one of the deal breakers for Ricketts? Plus there are more RH power hitters in the game and so you can always balance out the lineup with a RH stick somewhere down the road. Oh and Brett, I know its a yr away but are there any formats out there that the MLB have hinted on using most likely when the Astros go to the AL? All I can think of is that there will be interleague play throughout the season and id like to know what everyone thinks of that?
I’m not saying that I’m in favor of acquiring Peeholes, but I have absolutely no concern that he’s going to break the 400-pound barrier before spring training starts.
And interleague play sucks, but that’s the only way anybody I’ve heard from thinks it will work.
Interleague play throughout is all I can think of, as well. They can fudge it a bit with more two-game and four-game series, but the math just doesn’t work out unless there’s interleague throughout for at least two teams on any given day (one AL, one NL).
I hope they do not go after pujols. Hopefully we get Fielder in the peak of his prime.
Here are three areas for immediate improvement.
FIELDING Cubs most errors 134 LAST PLACE THIRTY TEAMS
League average 102
Fewest. 74 Phillies
WALKS GIVEN: Cubs most 580 LASTPLACE THIRTY TEAMS
League average 501
Fewest 404 Phil lies
WALKS TAKEN: Cubs 425 NEXT TO LAST PLACE (ASTROS)
League Average 501
Most 627 NY Yankees
If the Cubs improved to the league average in these categories it would be major.
It would also help my blood pressure quite a bit.
if they improve any at WALKS TAKEN i’m screwed.. i may need a new drinking game
I will join you in that one…I really don’t need an excuse….but it sure makes it more fun!!
Fielder has looked surprisingly good in the field in the playoffs. I admit, I haven’t watched every inning of every Brewers game, but what I’ve watched quite a few and he isn’t a butcher at first base. I think the Cubs could sign him and not regret it for 3 or 4 years.
As far as the playoffs are concerned, anybody think it might be in our best interest for the Cardinals to win? We have discussed around the office, and believe the Cardinals hands would be tied if they won the WS. Fielder isn’t coming back no matter how they finish. But if St. Louis wins the whole thing, they are almost forced to bring back Pujols, especially if he continues to rake at the rate he is now. I hope he hits a walkoff in game 7 of the WS. That way they have to pay him 30 million over ten years, and they will have been forced to shoot themselves in the foot.
Just trying to find the silver lining in last nights game…
Just a thought. I don’t want to get run out of town with this, but I read on ESPN this morning David Ortiz is gonna try his hand at free agency this year. I know he doesn’t play much first base, but he has in the past. If Fielder and Pujols are a no go, do you think it would be worth our time to maybe make a try at him?
GET THE PITCHFORKS!
Kudos to you Cara for being bold in your statement. I was worried that I would draw to much attention with my post just before yours about cheering for the Cardinals?? I appreciate you drawing the attention away from me!
I just don’t think he can handle 1B for more than a couple games anymore, Cara. Think Soriano in left field – but worse. Much worse.
I mean he couldn’t possibly have any more errors than Castro…
Come on Cara…Castro is 21 and will get MUCH better as he matures. Ortiz is in his mid to late 30s and moves about as well as most overweight guys in their late 30s! Not a good comparison.
Yeah, but Castro’s error total could be MUCH higher with Ortiz at first.
I want the Brewers to win game 5 by about 17 runs so this “rally squirrel” fad can die a swift death.
Hey guy’s who won the World Series?
We beat the two best teams in the NL and the best team in the AL WE ARE WORLD CHAMPS Get used to it
WE DONT USE PUNCTUATION EXCEPT QUESTION MARKS AND INCORRECT APOSTROPHES Get used to it
