The 2012 Cubs Convention is January 13 through 15, and, given the exciting organizational turnover, I can’t wait to see Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer – among many others – address the fans. To that end, Cubs Convention weekend passes go on sale this morning.

Weekend passes go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT. Fans can purchase up to six passes per person while they are in supply. Each weekend pass is $60 plus convenience fees, with proceeds benefitting Chicago Cubs Charities. Passes will be available for purchase by visiting cubs.com or by calling 1-800-THE-CUBS.

Besides seminars with Epstein and Hoyer, fans will see Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Billy Williams and Fergie Jenkins at the event.

The 2012 Cubs Convention will feature enhanced layouts and new exhibits, such as an interactive baseball area hosted by the Illinois Baseball Academy, a new electronic gaming zone and the LEGOLAND® Discovery Zone. cubs.com.

I’ll be hitting up the Convention as well – not participating, just as a fan – so, for any readers in attendance who’d like to meet up, we’ll have to try and put something together. Confession: it will be my first Cubs Convention, so I’m looking forward to seeing what all the hubbub is about.

As the date gets closer, we can figure things out. Until then, get your passes.

(No, this is not an advertisement. I’m genuinely excited.)

i havent been in years.. was looking forward to going this year.. but have a wknd work conference.. BAD timing

I went 7 years ago and had a brief conversation with Ernie Banks before he left podium. He was very encouraged about team then. Wonder what he would say today? Some questions to ask at convention would include about improving team speed and defense; tailoring team for getting off to good start despite bad weather in April; and stressing fundamentals including bunting, base running, cut off man, holding on runners etc

I know exactly what Banks would say today.  He would say, “Yeah, I remember talking to that guy 7 years ago.   He was so damn negative about everything.  Was he actually a Cubs fan?   Did he really pay money to come into the convention just to be a Debbie Downer about every decision the Cubs ever made?   And why the hell did he ask me for Dick Tidrow’s phone number?”

To be fair, I am paraphrasing.

I went a few years ago and bought a pair of game used Starlin Castro autographed batting gloves for 60 dollars. Please, make the hall of fame starlin. please.

I bought sweet Joe Borowski used spikes when I was 16. They’re nice nike leather cleats, probly retailed for $140. I paid $20 and they’re still my softball cleats haha. They even have #44 in marker on the back heel.

I used to go a lot when I was young. They do this raffle thing to get in line for autographs of the really famous guys (Banks, Sandberg, Sosa…), anyways, I won the raffle to be one of the 500 who got Ernie’s autograph Friday evening. Sunday afternoon I got onto the elevator to go downstairs and he was on it, just me and him, and he said, “Hey, Steve, how has your weekend been?” He remembered some random 12 year old’s name. Needless to say, I am a huge Ernie fan.

I’ll be making the trip from Ottawa, ON to go to my first Cubs Convention. And although I don’t know how the logistics would work, I second Brett by saying that it would be cool for the readers of this website to “get together” while we’re there.

Only if it’s the cool kids and not the douchenozzles.
