So when will the Cubs win the World Series? Will Rizzo, Jackson, and Castro help the Cubs win it all? Who will be our front line starters? Trey McNutt? Ugh, the Cubs need to get some young promising arms. Garza will be too old and expensive by the time RJC are in there primes. Don’t count on Wood and Volstad to be front line starters, DONT!
I’ve always thought that the trio of K. Wood, Prior, and Zambrano starting would get the Cubs a World Series. I was always sure of it. Now look where those three are in there careers? I’m sad…
The Cubs have a bunch of promising arms in the low minors. it will be interesting in the next year or two to see how promising.
Right now, I’ve got 2014 as the first year in which they’ll really be in contention for the division, after which they should be at or near the top of the division every year for the rest of the decade (barring unforeseen disaster). Once a team gets into the playoffs, though, anything can happen.
Also, it’s sort of pointless to worry about the Cubs winning the WS. What Theo & Hoyer can do is build a team to get to the playoffs. After that, well, if the Cubs were playing better baseball than the other 3 NL teams in September, then there is a really good chance that they’ll get to the WS. After that, it’s a crapshoot. (The dominant teams of the last 17 years have demonstrated that pretty well.)
At this point, however, I’d just settle for a pennant.
I thought the duo of Steve Trachsle and Kevin Tampini were a WS lock….
While that may have been sarcasm on your part, I always really liked Tapani. His performance in the ’98 NLDS is underrated; 9 IP, 1 run, 5 hits, against Tom Glavine. Sadly Terry Mullholland blew it in the 10th, and they lost 2-1. But I was happy that Tap got to pitch a playoff game and performed like he did.

My cousin showed me this yesterday and it brought tears to my eyes. But hey, the Cardinals sans-Pujols, LaRussa, and Mather just might be so different that they could stink up the Trophy from last year (Not to mention Matt Holliday horrible defense).
Milwaukee has been bit by the injury bug with Hart and now possibly Marcum (Which means Rickie Weeks might have hit 5th, and we all saw the stats last year when he hit there)
So if by some miracle everything works out for the Cubs and we have bounce back years from DeJesus, Stewart, and Soriano (Plus LaHair blowing everybody’s minds with 30 HRs) and quality starts from the starters we COULD see it happen. But that’s a longshot. A very lonnnngg longshot.

I would like to think that when this happens ( It will…..right??) that it would be exactly like this in the city. I live in rural Georgia and see footage of riots in big cities after Super Bowl or World Series wins. Would Cub fans riot?? Would such a momental event override the primal urge to loot and pilage??
I’ve been to Wrigley 7 times over the years and have been embraced (litterally) by Chicagoans, and when this finally goes down, I’ll be there to hug, cry, and dance with anyone and everyone…black, white, fat, skinny, foreign or domestic.

Hey Steve, what part of Ga do u live? I’m in the SE part of the state. Near St. Simon’s Island.
Too early to get the goosebumps going, but this is an exception. Biased opinion, but I think that would be the wildest championship celebration ever. They’d literally have to shut half the city down. For those who are riding out these rough years, it’ll mean that much more. Plus, it’d be nice to have a baseball championship in Chicago that people actually care about…keep it in ya White Sox fans!!
I think we all got a little misty-eyed watching that… Something always happens to keep Cub fans believing in yet another season!

I loved that part too, made me laugh out loud and then I teared up. I hate having my emotions dicked with like that. The exquisite pain of being a Cubs fan.

I cried as well.. I don’t care who knows.. And I watched it like 15 times so far. This anyone in St Louis would react that way? Not a chance. One of the many reasons I love being a Cubs fan, the thought of a World Series title brings a tear to your eyes. It still means something.
Well, the Cards do have 2 WS in the last 2 years, so that might take the gusto out of it a little. Still, it reminds me of the joke from a couple of years back (of which, there are several variants, some of which probably work better than what I remember here):
In early winter of 2008, a cop in Boston pulls aside a dazed looking youth shouting “SAWX WON! SAWX WON!!!” repeatedly in the dead of night.
“Laddy,” brogues the cop, “We’re all happy that the Sawx won, but it’s been 3 months since they beat the Rockies. Let’s have some quiet.”
The young man looks confused. “The Sawx beat… the Rockies?”
The cop looks back, a little concerned: “Yeah, y’know: that new team in Denvah.”
The young man grins even wider and starts screaming: “THE SAWX WON… AGAIN!!!!”
The video reminded me of the scene when the 85 Bears won the Super Bowl. At the time, I was a 20-something at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. At the end of the game, I spontaneously leaped out of my apartment (without a coat), jumped in my car and drove downtown. The streets were packed with celebrating people, but I don’t remember seeing anyone do anything destructive.
My poor wife had left the apartment during the game, so she wouldn’t have to hear me screaming at the TV. When it was over, she came home to find the apartment abandoned and unlocked and her hubbie nowhere to be found. She was a bit concerned and there were no cell phones back then. It was not my most responsible moment, but in my defense, alcohol played a part.
I now live 150 miles from Chicago, but if the Cubs win the Series before I become too old to drive, I’ll be heading in for the chaos.
Shortly into the video, it shows people dancing outside of a restaurant called “The Weiner’s Circle”. I highly suggest going there some night around 2 am and ordering the chocolate milkshake…Yummmm…
Ive bought this game the past few years, its always great, but, ironically, I’m not buying it this year b/c the Cubs are gonna be terrible (in the game at least)
So, i cried and my mom and my dad and my sister and my brother….. I hope this happens sometime soon. I am only 22, but there are so many older generation fans out there that need the Cubs to win to die peacefully. I hope Theo and Jed know how much this would mean to Cubs fans all over the world. I am pretty sure, for some VREY odd reason I couldn’t make it to Chicago when the Cubs win it all, ya’ll will be able to hear me from Omaha. I do think the city will be way crazier then what the video is showing lol. I agree with whoever said the city would have to shut down for several days…. it will be CRAZY!

I, as well as all Cubs fans, will break down and cry like babies WHEN the Cubs ultimately win the World Series. The scene here where Cubs fans are celebrating will be replicated in many cities across the States. You will feel a minor earthquake when the last out is recorded. Cubs fans are to classy to riot. We are not like the trash in Bridgeport. The painful life of a Cubs fan.
I agree with 3 out of 4, but that last one, the depression…nope. Not at all. Why? because, for the first time, there is legitimate hope. They’re doing everything right. There is an actual plan, a plan that extends for more than one season. No reason for depression, this is the best chance to shine we’ve ever had.
