My love affair with Chick-Fil-A’s seasonal Peppermint Chip milkshake is no secret. My only regret is that I’m not able to feel its cooling, delicious love coursing through my system for most of the year. Enter the Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s. Also seasonal, the Hulk-green beverage promised the same kind of minty affection at a time when I couldn’t get it from Chick-Fil-A. I had one for the first time last night, and, sadly, it was only so-so. Tasty, worth having, but probably not a repeat dessert. I knew the Peppermint Chip Shake, the Peppermint Chip Shake was a friend of mine. Shamrock Shake, you’re no Peppermint Chip Shake. November feels so far away…

  • Alfonso Soriano will not be batting leadoff when the season rolls around, Dale Sveum confirmed yesterday. David DeJesus is the primary leadoff man, and Soriano will hit somewhere in the middle of the order. Sveum admits that he had a little fun with us: “I know I scared you guys a little bit, putting him in the leadoff spot, but that was goofing around with lineups and getting guys at-bats real quick.” It wasn’t just that, Dale – you offered some scary justifications for batting Soriano leadoff, too. All is well now.
  • Ryan Dempster says his first pitch up and in to former teammate Aramis Ramirez yesterday was nothing more than an attempt to pitch inside, despite Ramirez’s comment before the game that he planned to bunt on Dempster. The Cubs’ pitcher joked that it “would have been a hard pitch to bunt,” and said that he wasn’t sending a message to Ramirez. “It just got away. I’ve seen him too many times to leave it out over the plate …. I was just trying to go inside. In the back of your mind, you don’t want to hit him, so you end up letting go a little early.”
  • Sveum explains why he stayed on with the Brewers despite being passed over for the managerial job more than once. “I was disappointed,” Sveum said. “I wanted to manage, but it wasn’t to the point that I wanted to leave. One, I know how precious these jobs are at the big league level. When I was notified they wanted me back in some capacity, I wasn’t going to jump ship because I didn’t get the managing job.” I like that answer.
  • Jed Hoyer may have escaped a sticky situation in San Diego, where part-owner and CEO Jeff Moorad is having trouble getting finally confirmed as a majority owner (thanks in large part to the opposition of Jerry Reinsdorf).
  • The State of Arizona has a whole mess of bills coming due on its efforts to expand the Cactus League (the $84 million needed for the Cubs’ new facility is being footed by the city of Mesa), and various cities owe big bucks if they want to keep teams Springing within their limits. One such possible move involves the Oakland A’s ditching Phoenix Municipal Stadium in favor of Hohokam Park in Mesa, once the Cubs leave the park in 2014.

I will be very happy when Reinsdorf is no longer one of the kingpins of major league baseball….

he always seems to be behind the curtains pulling the strings, or at least exerting some influence….work stoppages, Cubs ownership choices, against any owners who might spend…

of course I still hold a grudge for his premature breakup of the Bulls, and his “trade all Six titles for one World Series title” comment….then he just rakes in Bulls money while they suck for ten years(never saying or doing anything regarding the Bulls)…Rose lands in their lap they get good again, and he comes out thumping his chest….

sorry, maybe it’s just my dislike of White Sox things…like Hawk, and AJ, and……

    • rcleven

It may be your dislike but I like baseball and therefor the Wsox. I do have a dislike for everything Reinsdorf since he bought the Wsox from the Veck family. After all he is the reason I have a stronger affiliation with Cubs. Reinsdorf is all about the dollar.

  • bluekoolaidaholic

I won’t use language that Brett has deemed unacceptable on this site, but I think Reinsdorf really has a problem with horse flies that only gather at the rear end of the horse.

Dude, try making your own shake with Ben and Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie ice cream.  Its f’ing amazing.

    • King Jeff

This. Homemade shakes are much better than the ones you get from fast food places anyways, there are many more ways to customize the shake to your liking.

      • ferrets_bueller

And this way, you’re not getting large amounts of strange chemicals that you aren’t even aware of.

Only downside- its not green, its white.

But seriously, B+J’s and Haagen-Dazs FTW.

      • Brett

Oh, I’m totally into homemade milkshakes, too. But, let me say with confidence: nothing I’ve ever made (or ever will) can touch the Peppermint Chip shake from Chick-Fil-A.

        • Houston Transplant

I was so disappointed when I saw your picture of the neon green McD’s shake…it also made me long for the Peppermint Chip shake once again. There is no equal to the shake at Chick-Fil-A!

        • Doug

I can’t stand Chick-Fil-A food. That shake is indeed the Bomb Diggity though!!!!

          • Houston Transplant

Blasphemy! The chicken sandwich is the shizzy….yo. (?)

And their waffle fries are the best fries in the fast food world. And please, don’t get me started on Chick Fil A sauce!

  • King Jeff

So by this time next year, Bud Selig and Jerry Reinsdorf will have one of their buddies in place as owner of the Padres. We’ve seen this movie before. If you’re not in good with the boss or you like to think outside the box, you aren’t going to get a team.

  • Stan

If it helps, Alfonso Soriano has been raking in a simulated season on MLB 2K12. I did it just to see how the statistics of the game would leave the team by the end of the year. Soriano hit .280! Let’s hope virtual reality has some sort of correlation with real life haha

Rumor is Minn Twins very interested in Fitch and HoHoKam. Having spent a lot of time in Fort Meyers mostly with Red Sox that move would be sensible. So many Minn. people winter in Arz. that resturants feature nightly Minn. Pike Oaklands facility very adequate . Those l-2 hr. drives for games in Fla. take away a lot of practice time for teams and good reason to come to Fitch–20 min. away from most teams. My golf course was bulldozed this week at Riverview for new 100 mill. facility. A lake will be drained-rec fields removed for new Wrigley.

indeed. Discovered that vanilla ic, milk, green coloring and peppermint flavoring from jewel can very closely approximate mcshake. Was surprised how easy it was. Got inspired when I had to reduce spending and started investigating home creations to support my frapp habit (nescafe, sugar, water, milk, flavor, ice…blend in magic bullet. perfect and cheap)
