It’s the final Cactus League game for the Chicago Cubs, who, at .500, have a chance to close things out with a winning record. Travis Wood gets the start for the Cubs, who take on a Brewers split squad.

The game is an hour earlier than most have been, and will kick off in just a little bit at 2:05 CT. Pat and Zonk are back on the air, and they’ll be broadcasting the game on WGN radio.

The final lineup is mostly regulars, though Bryan LaHair is once again missing. He was supposed to start, but was a late scratch with his ongoing back problem. He hasn’t played since Friday.

1. David DeJesus, RF

2. Darwin Barney, 2B

3. Starlin Castro, SS

4. Alfonso Soriano, LF

5. Ian Stewart, 3B

6. Geovany Soto, C

7. Marlon Byrd, CF

8. Blake DeWitt, 1B

9. Reed Johnson, DH

Is it just me or does having Blake Dewitt in the lineup put a damper on your day. I mean everytime he goes up to the plate I feel like he is not going to get a hit. I am not trying to be negative but I have never been impressed even when he was with the dodgers.

The thing that is easy to forget about DeWitt is that he is only 25 won’t turn 26 till end of august. He and Barney are essentially the same age. He has been around for awhile, but he still has a ton of space for growth.

I think you mean 26, going on 27. (Insert ‘Sound of Music’ joke.)

It’ll be good to have Pat Hughes back.

  • gritsngravy

I agree luke. I will be listening on my lunch break.

  • A_Mazz_ing

Seeing Blake DeWitt play 1B makes me wanna puke.

  • Bob Wininger

I believe “Zonk” should be spelled “Csonk”, nicknamed after the great running back Larry Csonka.

  • RoughRiider

Why are they using a DH against a NL team ?

    • DocWimsey

To get in ABs for Johnson. That makes more sense than trying to get bunting opportunities (which might not arise) for the pitcher.

      • RoughRiider

Normally, I would disagree but since Wood will be playing at Iowa it doesn’t make much sense to get him at bats at this time. I’d like to see the Major League pitchers get every chance they can.

  • MaxM1908

How about a Starlin Castro monster 2-run home run to kick off the game. Who knew he had that kind of power? Pat was saying it sailed at least 450 ft.

  • Andrew

Also wood won’t be playing in the bigs this year for the time being and Johnson will.

  • die hard

wonder how many homers Castro would hit if didnt have to worry about fielding the most difficult position?….Cant see why the Cubs cant see this?…

    • MichiganGoat

So any 19-22 year old who struggles at a position in their first few years should be moved to a different position? So basically SS and C should not be developed, since they are the hardest position to field.
