The Cubs close out a kinda-sorta two-game series against the Reds (and, for the third straight time, they won’t lose the series!). Ryan Demspter returns from the disabled list to take the start, on this, his 35th birthday. Across the aisle is another birthday boy, Homer Bailey, who turns 26.

Tony Campana gets the day off, but maybe he can pinch run his way to those 100 steals.

    I officially HATE F-ING MARMOL!!! He’s trashed Dempster’s gem!!!

  • Cub Gone Wild

I hate Carlos Marmol. The team plays a great game and he F’s it up. He sucks … I want to jump the fence and run out there and yank him off the mound myself

    • calicubsfan007

      Please do!! I’ll pay you!

  •!/sperls13 sperls13

Release him immediately after the game – absolutely ridiculous.
What a great BDay gift Marmol, you giant piece of excrement!!!

  • Adam Dirks

Another day ruined by Carols Marmol. Put your foot down Theo!

  • Can’t think of a cool name

Mr. Dempster, Do you still think Carlos Marmol only needs more chances to pitch better?

    I didn’t think so.

  • bleacherrat

Has the pitching coach worked with marmol at all the last 3 years his delivery looks as sporadic as ever.

  • calicubsfan007

    Please save the game Dolis!!

  • Bret Epic

Can we talk to the Red Sox about trading Marmol for Prior?

    • calicubsfan007

Hell, just trade Marmol for a bag of balls!

  • Eric

I think if Theo wants to “build for the future” he’s gotta realize Marmol is done, go with Dolis at closer and bring up guys with promise like Belevieu and Maine back up. You’ve gotta see how well these young guys can do at the bigs.

    • Jay Anderson Jr

As much as I hate giving up on Marmol, I agree. It’s time to cut our loses. Put Carlos on the open market, pay as much of his salary as we have to, and take the best offer. Solid is our closer of the future, might as well turn over the job now.

      • calicubsfan007

Agreed. Marmol doesn’t know how to pitch anymore. He needs a change of scenery, maybe then he won’t suck. I want Dolis to close! He saved Marmol’s a–!

      • Jay Anderson Jr

Funny. My Tablet turned DOLIS into SOLID, but I’m glad you got the point.

        • ferrets_bueller

Thats quite a fitting autocorrect. Dolis is indeed solid.

  • Smitty

I sure hope Svuem owns up to his mismanagement on this one. after those first two batter you have to move on…then after the 3rd and 4th batters that is just inexcuseable.

    • Ogyu

  • Can’t think of a cool name

Why did Svuem wait until Marmol walked in a second run to take him out?

  • Njriv

There is your closer of the future ladies and gentlemen! Dolis!

  • Michael

Damn you Marmol! Great job Demster!

  • Lakeshot

I think Marmol is just… no, wait… what? Ahh! It’s really Mel Rojas!!! Ahhhggg!!!

  • ISU Birds

I recorded the same amount of outs and strikeouts today as Marmol with less walks, hey Svuem can I be the closer now.

  • Can’t think of a cool name

2 run homer coming up by Castro. I’m trying to think positive.

  • Myles

Carlos Marmol, I hate you so much.

  • Joe Kristan

If he’s sick, let’s help him. First, lets get him off the mound.

  • calicubsfan007

Thank God for Dolis! Marmol just epically sucked!

  • Cub Gone Wild

I hope to God this is the last time I ever see that worthless garbage on the mound in a Cubs uniform. He is just terrible. Last night was a flipping fluke. It was a miracle. Today is reality …. Marmol sucks. If I’m Dempster, Marmol never makes it to the team bus. How can Sveum let him do this to this team over and over?

  • Ogyu

This is when a competent manager does throw a player under the bus. Literally.

  • Glenallen Hill’s One Home Run

Guys, look at the bright side: more baseball! More awful, painful, depressing baseball!!

    • calicubsfan007

At least Marmol’s done, so I won’t vomit. It’s not depressing if Marmol isn’t pitching.

  • Josh Z

Why didn’t Dempster go out again for the 9th. I don’t understand. I could have told you Marmol would blow it. It wasn’t that surprising. He does it every other time he is out on the mound. And I like how the big sell on Stewart this offseason was how much of an upgrade he was defensively over Ramirez. Well his great defense could have very well ended the game in the 9th inning and given the Cubs a win but I guess he wanted to play more baseball.

  • Josh Z

    Bring back Sean!

  • calicubsfan007

Come on LaHair! Save the game!

  • Cub Gone Wild

LaHair walks… Come on Starlin… hit a home run

  • Stu

I guess the question is when is it enough. Is there enough of a sample size for the ivy league types? What difference does it make how much you are paying the guy?

  • rbreeze

Lucky that we are still in the game.  This guy is a 25 to 30 pitch an inning pitcher because his mechanics are nowhere to be found.  The team has been playing well lately and this guy takes a dump to spoil the game.  Lets hope they can still pull this out.  Either the coaches work with him on the side or get rid of him.  I’ve had enough of this.  He can’t see another game pitching like this.  Marmol was probably never a boy scout because he keeps setting forest fires!!! Unreal!!!

  • Cub Gone Wild

I’m drunk bear with me.. Campana…

    • Glenallen Hill’s One Home Run

Marmol has ensured that when this Pharmaceutics class is over I am walking right to the bar.

  • Dustin S

I have to take something back I said on LaHair…earlier in Spring Training I predicted alot of doubles but not so much power from him. He’s proved me wrong and I couldn’t be happier.

As far as Marmol, I understand the desire to build up some trade value in him….but gd wins are too hard to come by for this team. The starting pitching knows they practically have to throw a shutout every time out. At some point Svuem can’t keep up the company line that he’ll be fine and is just working things out. It’s almost a negative when Marmol stumbles through an inning without losing the game because it just means his debacle is going to get stretched out longer. Dolis is young and unpolished, but he’s by FAR the best late inning relief pitcher on the team right now. Marmol’s confidence, velocity, movement just isn’t anything like it was 2 years ago and it’s putting a square peg in a round hole to keep trying to make him succeed in that role with the stuff he has right now. Even he looks like he doesn’t want to be out there, and he isn’t fooling any hitters. The outs he does get are usually liners at someone or long drive fly balls.

    • calicubsfan007

You are definetly on to something… Marmol hasn’t looked like he’s wanted to be there during yesterday’s game and today’s. It was an ugly save yesterday and an ugly blown save today.
