The Braves come to town with a great record in tote, but the Cubs counter with some surprisingly decent play of late. In case you missed it earlier, Travis Wood was indeed sent back down to AAA with a tip of the cap, and Adrian Cardenas has been called up to join the infield reserves.

Reed Johnson gets the start in left field (and bats all the way up at sixth), spelling Alfonso Soriano.

MY BIG QUESTION IS WHY WOULD DALE PUT HIM IN THAT POSITION TO HELP CLOSE OUT A GAME AGAIN SO SOON? IT’S BONKERS! it’s not bonkers it’s just plain assanine!

    • Pat

Because he is owed 16 million dollars over the next 17 months. Unless you have brain damage, you try to make that sort of investment work.

  • Cubs505050

Marmol- A heart attack waiting to happen

  • LoneStarCub

His confidence must be pretty low. Loosing the closing job, Blowing a game, Etc..

Maybe Dale put him in to build it back up?

He has to start somewhere building back up his self esteem as a player and his confidence in his pitches.

Maybe this is what he needed to see that he has what it takes and that he is an asset to the team?

Or he could just be crazy and decided what the hell, “put Marmol in”?

  • Njriv

    Man, Cardenas scolded that ball.

    • TWC

“Bad ball! You’re a very, very bad ball!”

  • BubblesHargrave

dont try to build up marmol’s confidence to the sacrifice of the whole team. They must really believe that this is just a throw-away season. It looks we’ll win this game, but I find that move very hard to swallow.

    • Pat

Look, this team has already given up on a good chunk of the roster five weeks in. Byrd traded, DeWitt released, Marmol demoted. And still people want Soriano, Barney, Volstead, and Soto replaced (and some want Stewart and DeJesus replaced as well). Who the hell do you think is gong to sign with the team if they bail on everyone five weeks in. Injured and old payers, and that’s about it.

Nice win tonight. Samardzja continues to impress as well as Tony Campana
