God’s Wrath Watch: Welington Castillo Hurt His Knee, Too

I was kidding yesterday about The Wrath taking a special interest in Cubs catchers this year.

I’m no longer kidding.

Welington Castillo left yesterday’s game early, and folks were speculating that it might be an injury. It was. He sprained the MCL in his right knee, which is just splendid. It was a “mild” sprain, so he’ll be out for about four to seven days. That’s, of course, perfectly bad, because that’s the stretch of time that Steve Clevenger is expected to still be out.

With Geovany Soto out for three to four weeks with an meniscus tear, this is Blake Lalli’s team for the time being. Darwin Barney is the emergency back-up catcher, and if the Cubs don’t add a catcher to the roster, he might actually have to see some action in the next week.

Hopefully Castillo makes a full and speedy recovery, so that when Clevenger returns, we can see a nice platoon. Until then, it’s going to be dicey. Best of luck back there, Blake.

Yeah, now Cub fans get to realizes how the Bulls season was, with constant injuries. It was even more frustrating because the Bull were a legitimate threat to win the Championship.

When’s the last time Barney caught?

It’s an unfortunate situation, but I a little part of me wants to see Barney behind the dish… just for fun.
