OH. MY. GOD. Koyie Hill is Back

Twinkies. Cockroaches. Koyie Hill in Chicago.

Very few things could survive a nuclear apocalypse, but Koyie Hill is clearly one of them. Today, thanks to a rash of catcher injuries, the Cubs reacquired long-time back-up catcher Koyie Hill from the Reds for cash. Hill signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals in the Spring, but bounced to the Reds’ minor leagues where he waited for a chance.

Presumably, he was waiting for Jim Hendry to call, but, no, the love affair between Hill and the Cubs was not Jim Hendry-centric! Apparently, it’s just a Cubs thing.

So back Hill comes, and he’ll join the Cubs in time for tonight’s game. I can barely breathe.

(Small, serious part: the Cubs were desperate, and understandably so. Hill knows a few of the Cubs’ pitchers, and can at least call and catch a good game. So what if he’s currently hitting .195/.250/.341 at AA…)

Awww… I loathe Hill. He really sucks… Sigh… But I guess that desperate times call for desperate measures…

THIS shows you just how “inept” the CUBS really are!
HE couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn even if he was
right next to it! DEFENSIVELY, he IS a workhorse.
PRAY VERY HARD MY FELLOW CUBS FANS!

    F$&k! I should have been a catcher……

  4. Wilson17

Play Blake Lalli at catcher !!!!

  5. al

Injuries will do that. Look at the Bears, Bulls, and Black Hawks.

    All I have to say:

    LOL

  7. JNasty

It’s a short term fix. As soon as someone else gets healthy he will be gone. Great deal just because it makes me laugh. The baby in the picture looks like he can catch, maybe we should sign him too.

  8. Cheryl

Does this mean he’s now on the 40 an roster? Seems like there was one space to fill.

So instead of us dumping Soto onto someone who needs a catcher we get Koyie Hill back. How messed up is that?

What fresh Hell is this?? Haven’t we suffered enough?? Where is my Scotch??

Surely there must be someone among this group that can pinch-catch for our injured regulars. No…? …..anyone? I mean, the bar can’t be that high if retreads meet it.

    1. DocPeterWimsey

Actually, it shows you how high the bar is for catching: very few guys can handle it and still bat Mendoza level.

And, let’s face it, when you have 3 catchers go down, you really cannot complain about “depth.”  Any GM who had 4 MLB caliber catchers and then didn’t trade one for a key part must either have: a) a team in need of no major parts, or b) rocks for brains.

Exactly it shows how a guy like Hill can have a long career if they can catch a good game and hold a bat, and likewise it shows how rare it is too have a good catcher that can hit.

    Nice throw

Ok this hill bastard only has like one good hand to hit with, God only knows what happened to his other fingers on his bum hand. Your trying to tell me that there is no catcher available in baseball with two good hands. This is what happens when uncle Bud will only let a family of fudge packers buy the team.

  15. Evan

I’d rather see Darwin Barney catch.

  16. Curt

god indeed does have a sense if humor , but this isn’t funny this guy blows couldn’t someone at aaa come n catch for a week, when they said it would b a rough ride they weren’t kidding. wow thought we finally got rid of this guy.

  17. Oliver Closov

Why is every player on this team a utility player? There is no one on this team worth paying to see. Change is goinging to be about 10 years worth of the 1st pick away!

  18. william

Marmol was a catcher turned pitcher maybe since he not pitching good anymore couldn’t hurt to try him out there over hill

  19. PattyP

I’d take Michael Brenly over Boyie Hill at this point. Hell I’d take Bob Brenly for that matter as well.

    NO play with 8

    Is Pat Cline available?
