Tonight’s game probably won’t have the same deeply moving story lines as yesterday’s, but it’s still Cubs/Sox, and it’s a national game on Fox. Ryan Dempster is still shooting for his first start of the year.

Randy Wells is going to join the team for tonight’s game, and he’s presumably taking Kerry Wood’s roster spot. Wells will probably pitch out of the bullpen in what could be the start of a permanent conversion to relieving.

But none of that is interesting. KOYIE HILL IS BACK AND IS STARTING AT CATCHER. Seriously. That is actually happening.

Hopefully a sub .220 hitter won’t beat us again.

  • Johnny

Question, why is Jeff Baker, infielder by trade, playing RF, and Mather, Outfielder by trade, [playing 3B? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? I mean I know both are capable playing their respective positions but I feel like it’d be more logical that way

    • calicubsfan007

Sveum probably wants to see what they can do at the relatively unfamiliar positions. Probably a tryout for next season.

      • cubmig

Your comment makes me remember that this is a “trial” year; a year to test the skill versatility and adjustment ability of who we have. With some
of the minor league guys coming up, maybe the moves are bench auditions for next year.

  • calicubsfan007

Watch out world Koyie Hill is back to cause destruction against opposing pitchers!!! Wow, could barely say that with a straight face. I am glad Mather is in, I like his abilities and style. But why is Baker, Hill, and Johnson starting? This isnt a really intimidating starting lineup. I love the Cubbies with all my heart, but do they really need to keep (or re-attain) these guys and start them? This offseason, Theo needs to focus on adding more to the bench.

    • MichiganGoat

I think we are having a 2010 reunion tonight.

  • cerambam

This is the absolutely least exciting and least scary lineup I have ever seen in my life

    • calicubsfan007

Oh come on, these guys are scary for Cubs fans to watch (Hill, Baker, Soriano) and it is exciting to the other team’s pitcher. I can’t wait until a couple years from now, thats whats keeping me going.

  • mark

“Hill was playing for Double-A Pensacola, batting .195 with one home run and five RBIs in 14 games.”

Very small sample. I learned that line at this blog.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rejuvenated, another LaHair, maybe. Late bloomer. This is a new beginning.

    • calicubsfan007

I really respect your positive attitude. Doc likes to use the “small sample” line often. Maybe you are right about Hill being another LaHair.

      • mark

And I really respect your ability at understating things. :-)

  • Brady

How is Cardenas getting like no starts? I haven’t been impressed with him in PH situations but if you arent going to play him ever why did we call him up?

    • calicubsfan007

I agree, especially with a ton of bench players starting today. He should start today.

  • al

Dempster is looking for a win, but I know what you mean.

  • mark

“How is Cardenas getting like no starts?”

    “He should start today.”

    Adrian (Rubio) Cardenas
    Bats: Left, Throws: Right

This is a right handed hitting lineup. Johnson, Mather, Baker, etc.

I, too, see no point in bringing him up for very occasional pinch hitting, but OTOH, his presence appears to have lit a bit of a fire under Barney.

  • Kevin

The upcoming MLB draft will be true barometer of our new brain trust in the front office.

  • Johnny

I want Cardenas to play more as much as the next guy but tonight wouldn’t have been a good night. Either way he’s really here to stay, the organization made it clear they prefer him over DeWitt, not like he’s here because someone is hurt. Unless he REALLY sucks, like DeWitt style, then I’m sure we could see Valbuena

  • Mrp

Bummer to see DeJesus out of the lineup tonight. He has by far the most PA against Danks and has a .348/.435/.835 line against him and he has been raking as of late. The career splits on Danks actually have left handed hitters having a higher OPS. Not sure why the lineup is stuffed with righties tonight.

  • Richard Josie justik

Why not bring up rizzo, Jackson, Baez, lake,
Trade garza for banuelos and bestances and catcher prospect
Trade dempster for 2 of torontos prospect pitchers or one plus catcher prospect
Give up on soriano, Dewitt, baker, Stewart, Johnson for whatever you can get
    Try Russell as a starter
Trade lahair and Barney to Philly for bastardo plus
Keep wells and wood and volstad until prospects are ready or 2013 free agents sign

    • Cooper R

A long way of saying gut the entire team haha

    • King Jeff

      “Try Russell as a starter”

      Hahahahahahahahahaa!!! That is hilarious.

      • Njriv

hey obviously did not see that failed experiment last year.

  • Can’t think of a cool name

    John Danks (2-4, 6.46 ERA, 4.18 BB/9)

Over/under on Cub walks? I’ll set it at 2

Over/under on the number of pitches Dank throws in the first 4 innings? I’ll set it at 50. althogh I hope the Cub have him out by then.

I’m starting a new campaign. Its a get rid of Rudy Jaramillo campaign. Anyone care to join?

  • Robert

HELP! My MLB account was deactivated, I go by the Monthly subscription. I will re-pay it for tonight. but will the game be blacked out on MLB. tv??? The damn Nationals and Oriloes game is on where i live……………

    • Rick Vaughn

I do believe tonight’s game will be subject to blackout in all areas. Damn you FOX.

      • Diesel

        I hate FOX

    • Cooper R

I sometimes use online streams when I am away from a TV or in a different state (although they may be illegal, I’m not sure if it’s illegal for me to view it). If you want some links I can shoot you some (don’t have to download anything).

      • Robert

Please do! I used to watch them all on Firstrowsports.com until it got banned… But shoot em’ at me, please!

        • Cooper R

The links are pretty long and I don’t want to spam up this site so you got an email or somewhere I can send them to you?

  • Kevin

    Fox is bad!

  • Koyie Hill = Hall of fame

I’m calling it, koyie Hill either hits a Key homer. Or wins it with a walk off hit.

    • Jimmy james

      Me thinks you are right

  • Cooper R

This lineup would be sponsored by Taco Bell because both make me sick

    • TrueblueCubbie

Best thing I have read all day. lol

  • Njriv

I feel that Dempster is pressing too much by trying to be too perfect, since he doesn’t really get that much run support. Anyone else agree?

  • morgan

yeah nothing going to happen, dempster a chicken, didnt do it last year when holliday took out castro and now has chance to send message and is a chicken

    • Njriv

he’d most likely would have been thrown out if he threw at someone, do you really want to put the game in the hands of THIS bullpen earlier than you have to?
